I love loafers. I love Gucci loafers the most as I am that predictable, but loafers as a whole have totally become my bag over the past few years. Previously I used to veer away from a smart shoe and was always more of a trainer girl. I still am up to a point, but once you hit real middle age you need a smart, yet comfortable shoe to see you through.
A smart comfortable classic shoe need not be one you buy from the adverts in back of the Sunday Supplement magazines. Even when I’m 90 I hope to steer away from them. Although I will be more than happy with a nice pair of elasticated slacks and an easy chair. To be honest, I’d be happy with that now. I seriously need to do some real exercise soon, or elasticated waists may be my only option… When I mentioned last week that I was going to do a post on Loafers this week, I got this response from one of my friends…
Love a loafer! I’ve just bought a red suede pair from Dune in the sale and have a pale pink Suede pair as well as a tan brogue number. I think they look chic and classic with cropped trews, I don’t tend to wear with skirts, not sure why, but then I don’t wear skirts all that often! Belated birthday greetings, reminded me I turn 45 in a few months, I find it best to forget!
I think best to just embrace the age thing these days!
Been waiting for this post – brilliant! Can I also suggest Hudson for a good quality Gucci dupe which doesn’t break the bank (especially with their current sale)
Of course! I should have included them!
I’ve spent WAY too long googling “Jordaan or Brixton” over the last six months than is really healthy for mental health or bank balance. Veering back towards Jordaan after being convinced Brixton was definitely it. Thoughts? I probably won’t be wearing the backs down. No doubt I’ll still be dithering for the next six months…
All I can say is that both pairs i have are Brixtons. Purely because I think they are more comfortable. I like to wear without socks and they need no breaking in at all. The leather is so soft.
Love it. Wore my trusty Topshop Karters today, with a coat very similar to the Mango herringbone one that you’ve featured here. My 15 yr old son did ask me why I was wearing my ‘Granny shoes’ but I told him that I’m a female ‘geek.’ I’ve always loved a bit of androgynous fashion. I feel the loafer fits the bill incredibly well on that score. Love a brogue, a loafer, a deck shoe, a monk shoe and anything vaguely masculine. It’s a clean cut shoe with simple lines and that’s my style down to a tee. So long live the loafer! Plus they’re comfy too – bonus!
I find it very hard to wear anything too ‘girly’ on my feet! x
