This is another purely selfish blog post. I am in the market for a new bag. I fancy a nice tan leather one. I don’t have any tan or brown bags and I feel like I need one. I feel like it will be good for spring. Have you noticed people saying that a lot these days?…‘I feel like this is a good idea’, ‘I feel like she shouldn’t be saying that’, ‘I feel like you should shut up about what you feel’…I feel like it’s another Americanism that’s crept into our everyday vocabulary. But anyway, I want a new bag. I don’t think I need anything too fancy and high-end designer. I’m thinking something simple and understated, not words I use too much, but on this occasion it’s what I’m looking for.
So, I’ve done some research and I’ve narrowed my search down to 4 different styles, The Circle Bag, The Half Circle Bag, the Tote Bag and the Bucket Bag. I know I am personally looking for a tan or brownish colour, but I’ve found them all in a few different colours as this isn’t always all about me is it? (It is all about me, but I’m trying to be nice here, stick with me…)
This is one is definitely a trend, as I found tons of cute little circular bags on my exploratory bag mission. Surprisingly one of my favourites was this one from Next. It’s not leather, which is usually a bit of turn-off for me, but this one looks great, and maybe you don’t need to spend too much on such a tiny trendy bag? Would look great with a maxi dress and your trusty denim jacket.
HALF CIRCLE BAG
Currently this one is my front runner. I think I’ve featured this APC Half Moon bag a few times on the blog over the past few months. It’s been on my wish list for a while now, I just haven’t quite taken the plunge yet, but I do think this might be perfect for what I’m looking for. I think it will be good with jeans, loafers and a trenchcoat. The unofficial uniform of Spring. I am so looking forward to getting the bare ankles out again. We need to reach double figures temperature-wise first though. I can’t be doing with a freezy foot.
Always a classic and great if you need to lug a load of stuff around. I would always like the option of wearing it over your shoulder though, as most of us need to be hands free at any given moment. So make sure you check the length of the straps before you purchase, they need to be long enough to go over your arm or you will be cursing me. This one from John Lewis is my ideal Tote. Great colour, great detail, good size, just about long enough straps. I bought these River Island Jeans the other week. I got them in black, well grey really, they are an excellent fit. Great high waist to stop the muffin top, good stretch and perfect length for me, but these blue ones can also just be chopped as they have the handy raw hem.
Another bag type that I do not own. Shame on me as they look great. I’m very much drawn towards the Mansur Gavriel bucket bags, the best quality around, but obviously there are cheaper options available. I’d pair this with yet another slogan a sweatshirt , yes, I know I have a slight obsession with these right now. I lOVE this embroidered one from A Finer Thread. The prefect fit and the perfect off duty sweat. Let’s also try these Topshop khaki trousers which I just ordered. I’ve been searching for the perfect pair of casual green trousers for a while, so fingers crossed these ones hit the spot.
I hope there’s some bag inspiration for you here if you too are in the market for a new one. What is your favourite style?
