I spent it all on clothes by the looks of things...

Blue Valentine

First up, this post has nothing to do with Valentines day. I just thought of a snappy seasonal title to reel you in. So sue me. Valentines is a day that holds no truck with me. I hate being forced to celebrate anything on a specific day. New Years Eve is another one, it never lives up to expectations. I prefer to go with the flow. Why not have a romantic meal on Feb 19th? You’d get a better table at the nice restaurant, won’t be coerced into an expensive set menu with accompanying overpriced fizz, and will avoid being surrounded by fawning couples trying to impress each other. Oh, I’m such an old romantic…

In fact this post is all about blue. After last weeks yellow, I did vow not to do another ‘colour’ post for a while, but they are like buses, you wait ages for one, then two come along together. To be honest, the title came first and I made the rest up as I went along. I do have a deep love of blue though. It’s a very easy colour and one that suits everyone. Dare I say, as you get older Navy works better for most skin tones than Black? Is that sacrilegious? Navy is always my fall back colour. It makes me feel smart and grown-up. Navy trousers are one of my biggest repeat buys. I have about 5 pairs now, all *slightly* different you understand, and mostly from COS. They make the BEST trousers on the high street.

Doing Blue is also an excuse for more denim. Denim is also a big staple for me. I’m tempted with a denim boilersuit for spring. I haven’t yet taken the plunge but there sure are a lot out there at the moment. A definite trend if I ever saw one. The new season pieces are starting to drift slowly into the shops now, even though we are all still in sweaters and coats, we can start to look forward to a bare ankle and a floaty dress. Let’s have a look at those deep blue hues…

BLUE SWEATER

Ganni do this sweater every season in different colours. I have an allergy to mohair so it’s out for me, unless I want to spend the day sneezing all over it, but it’s a lovely shaped jumper. Spotted these paper bag waist trousers in H&M this week, I didn’t have time to try on, but I put them in my mental shopping basket for later. Watch out, there are quite a few A.P.C pieces in this weeks post. They have just come out with a few new bags, and the Demi ‑lune classic (that I have and love) in a bigger range of colours. Also! Stop the press! The M&S Veja-a-like trainers I bought last year are back in stock! They are (whisper it) way for more comfortable than the real deal too.

  1. Ganni Mohair Wool Blend Sweater
  2. Joanie Clothing Great Expectations Sweatshirt
  3. H&M Paperbag Wide-Leg Trousers
  4. A.P.C. Eloise Leather Bag
  5. M&S Leather Lace Up Trainers

BLUE BOILERSUIT

The choice of denim boilersuits right now is vast. This TopShop one seems to have been very popular but I’m not sure how I feel about the zip. I prefer a loose fit with buttons from my boilers. Pretty much the ones Kevin Webster would actually wear are my top choice. I think this & Other Stories one is more up my (Coronation) Street. I would roll up the hems and wear with a striped top underneath until the weather changes.

  1. & Other Stories Denim Boilersuit
  2. New Look Brushed Check Overshirt Jacket
  3. Cos Striped Cotton Jersey Top
  4. Nike Air Force One Trainers
  5. A.P.C. Navy Leather Demi Lune Bag

BLUE DRESS

Be still my beating heat. I have a serious crush on this Preen Line dress. It ticks all my boxes. Long Sleeves, Round Neck, Interesting hemline, navy checks. It’s pricey though. Might have to start saving. I would wear with my Vivienne Westwood Classic Roman 3 Strap Sandals or Nike Air Max One. A more girly alternative for spring would be this Rixo number. I have put a selection of other blue dresses at varying price points in the scrolling bar below.

  1. Rixo Monet Ruffled Cotton and Silk Mix Dress
  2. Preen Line Crepe de Chine Checked Dress
  3. Nike Air Max One Trainers
  4. Vivienne Westwoord 3 Strap Roman Sandals

BLUE JEANS

If you want my favourite high street jeans, see this post. I like the look of these ‘Balloon’ ones from Top Shop though. Could be a cheaper alternative to the Raey pair I bought recently. Keep it luxe casual with your Anine Bing top. Again, not cheap, but I do love them. If you can’t get on her own website, check out Black White Denim. Jo gets a good range in her shop. Also, I’m sure I mentioned the other week, but the fugly dad trainers are not going anywhere. I’ve even found myself drawn towards those ridiculously heavy Balenciaga Triple S’s. would they be a step too far?

  1. Anine Bing Tiger T Shirt
  2. A.P.C. Navy Logo Hoodie
  3. Top Shop Mid Blue Balloon Jeans
  4. Sandro Wool Check Coat (on sale)
  5. Sandro Astro 1 Trainers

BLUE TROUSERS

I couldn’t do a blue post without some navy trousers from COS. They don’t make my favourite ever wool pair anymore, but if they every come back into stock, I will let you know. Love this little wool jacket from Arket. Would look great with a wide leg trouser and some hiking boots. Is it Blue and Green that should never be seen? Not in my books. I love blue and green together. A Green bag is on my spring wish list.

  1. Cos Electric Blue Cotton Knit Jumper
  2. Arket Merino Navy Wool Boxy Jacket
  3. Cos Belted Navy Cotton Trousers
  4. John Lewis and Partners green Leather Koko Bag
  5. Ganni Alma Flatform Ankle Boots

If you are a hopeless romantic, then I wish you a wonderful Valentines day of course. I’m cold, but I’m not totally heartless!
