I spent it all on clothes by the looks of things...

7 outfits I would like to wear in March

It’s a new month! Cue many moans of either ‘How did that happen?’ or ‘February felt longer than January’. But here we are in March when the season really does start to change. I saw my first crocus last week and the daffodils are starting to sprout so we know the (slightly) warmer weather is coming. What would we actually do if we couldn’t talk about the weather? Is it just a British thing? Do the Swedes or the Spanish care as much as we do? Answers on a postcard, please.

Let’s assume for the purposes of this post that the weather this month is going to turn out OK. What’s that saying? March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb? Apparently, this is based on the idea that if March starts badly, it should end well. It doesn’t account for what might happen if March starts out well, though. It was a glorious sunny day in London…We won’t dwell on that. Instead, let us be positive and look forward to wearing some lovely outfits…

SWEATSHIRT WEATHER

I won’t be packing away the wool just yet, but the sweatshirts could be getting an airing outside of the gym this month. Love this green one from M&S, and this one from Sézane has been in my virtual basket for over a year now. I’m not even remotely French but I do really like their cheese and wine, so I figure that counts towards something.

  1. M&S Pure Cotton Slogan Relaxed Sweatshirt
  2. Whistles Isle Of Eden Blake Sunglasses
  3. Uniqlo JW Anderson oversized denim shirt
  4. Toast Alix Indigo Twill Trousers
  5. Ganni Bou Mini leather shoulder bag
  6. Toast striped cotton cashmere socks
  7. Adidas SL72 trainers

GET THE LEATHER JACKET OUT

Like the woolly sweaters, I won’t be hiding away my big winter coats yet, but I will be transferring my leather jackets from upstairs in the bathroom cupboard (don’t judge: we live in a small house and I have to store my out-of-season clothes where I can) to the downstairs ‘coats-and-jackets-in-current-rotation’ cupboard. A note on these Grenson loafers/moccasins: I have them and I can confirm that they are supremely soft and comfortable. Also true to size. For me they are the perfect shoe for this season.

  1. COS Merino wool v neck jumper
  2. ME + EM D Frame Sunglasses
  3. Louise Sinclair 9ct gold shell diamond pendant necklace
  4. COS Clean cut regular long sleeve t shirt
  5. Khaite Benny studded suede belt
  6. Zara Loose darted trousers
  7. Mango Leather bomber jacket
  8. Grenson Susanna leather moccasins

LACE BLOUSES AND BARN JACKETS

Because we all love the juxtaposition of the feminine and masculine, don’t we? Or is that just me? Sometimes I want to feel half Victorian lady and half Kevin Costner in Yellowstone, so sue me. I had a few requests to try to find an affordable pair of khaki trousers after I teased you with the rather expensive pair from Ralph Lauren the other week. I tried on this pair in Uniqlo and I can confirm they are very good. Those under 5ft 7in may have to roll the hems up to the desired length if you want a bit of a crop, but they fit really nicely and are a very good price. Talking of height, I went to the doctors this week and they took my measurements. Turns out I’m closer to 5ft 6in now, when I always thought I was just over 5ft 7in. I’m officially shrinking.

  1. Kirstie Le Marque diamond and black enamel lock necklace
  2. Zara Romantic embroidered blouse
  3. River Island Stone Barn Jacket
  4. Uniqlo jersey barrel leg trousers
  5. Staud Harlow suede shoulder bag
  6. Anthropologie Simple Western Belt
  7. ME + EM Suede ballerina flats

ORANGE IS THE NEW RED?

That’s unconfirmed information, but if you don’t fancy the ubiquitous ‘pop of red’ then you could try a hint of orange instead. I think it goes really well with leopard and denim and, seeing as that makes up at least a third of my entire wardrobe, I am willing to give it a go. Also at the time of writing this, the ‘earth’-coloured Spezials were back in stock at Adidas. Someone asked me what my most worn trainers were last year, and I can definitively say it was these. They just go with everything.

  1. Uniqlo C Smooth Cotton Crew Neck Jumper
  2. M&S Pure Cotton Printed Graphic T‑Shirt
  3. Essential Antwerp balloon-fit jeans with folded cuffs
  4. Anya Hindmarch Eyes Tote Bag
  5. Ganni Leopard-print canvas jacket
  6. Adidas Earth Spezial trainers

SORT OF SMART WITH A SKIRT

Because I’m looking forward to wearing my skirts with socks and loafers again soon. I might still need to layer a cardi over my shirt for a while, but when there are so many good cardigans to choose from, that’s not really an issue.

  1. Boden Sadie Relaxed Cotton Shirt
  2. Orwell & Austen Smile patch cardigan
  3. Mango Pleated skirt with belt
  4. Massimo Dutti nappa leather tote bag
  5. Barbour Beatrix check shower proof trench coat
  6. Ivy Ellis The Westface cotton socks
  7. Dr Martens Adrian Ambassador Soft Leather Tassel Loafers

BLUE AND GREEN SHOULD ALWAYS BE SEEN

Especially if it’s khaki and baby blue because there’s something about this colour combination that I love. Eagle-eyed readers will notice that I have used a fair few of the items from the trans-seasonal capsule wardrobe post last week. That’s because they are the building blocks of your outfits – those stalwarts will be the backbone that you can add the fun pieces to.

  1. Stradivarius Soft-touch knit sweater
  2. TBCo Merino Triangle Scarf in Lilac Stripe
  3. Isabel Marant Acetate Butterfly Havana Sunglasses
  4. Sezane Clyde Trench Coat
  5. Zara relaxed oversized high waist jeans
  6. Mint Velvet Chocolate Brown Suede Oversized Tote Bag
  7. Urban Outfitters Blue & Brown Checkerboard Socks
  8. & Other Stories Suede Penny Loafers

YOU MIGHT NOT BE TANNED BUT YOUR OUTFIT CAN BE

I did have a tiny tan when I got back from Antigua at the end of January. Alas, it faded within about two weeks, so I shall resort to wearing some tan-coloured items of clothing instead and maybe going a little heavier on the bronzer. I know it’s not the done thing anymore but I always feel better when I’ve got a tan. I shall be applying the fake stuff again very soon.

  1. Wardrobe 44 Alex mocha cardigan
  2. Zara straight fit houndstooth blazer
  3. Citizens of Humanity Raven wide-leg jeans
  4. Sezane Milo Classic Bag
  5. Uniqlo cropped bra vest
  6. Gucci Blondie logo-buckle suede belt
  7. Mint Velvet Milly Neutral Suede Ankle Boots

I hope this has given you some easy outfit inspiration for the coming weeks. Now we just need the weather to play ball.
