I spent it all on clothes by the looks of things...

Yellowstone style: Beth Dutton

I do recognise that this might be quite a niche post, but bear with me as I think it might interest you, even if you haven’t watched Yellowstone yet. I have recently binged this ‘on the ranch with cowboys, but also big business deals, family dramas and epic scenery’ TV show since it came to Netflix earlier this year, and it’s safe to say I LOVE it. I think many high street designers have also been under its spell, as it wasn’t that hard to find items that pay homage to the western style seen on the show.

I’ve focused on Beth Dutton here because she is, frankly, the best character on the show: a ballsy businesswoman who doesn’t take shit from anyone but she loves her man, Rip. She also has the easiest style for us to emulate. I love the men in the hats and the denim but, let’s face it, we’re not going to be parading down to Lidl in a stetson and some chaps anytime soon, are we? So I’ve stuck with Beth’s style this week.

I’ve also binged the US version of The Traitors, but trying to emulate Alan Cummings’ outrageous outfits is a task I’m not quite up to yet…

EVERYDAY BETH

Double denim for the win down on the ranch. Go for the classic Levi’s western-style shirt that has been around since the 1950s and barely changed since. They still sell it so you know you’re buying something timeless. Even better if you can find a vintage shirt that’s already got that worn-in softness. Beth wears her double denim with a statement jacket and belt.

  1. Levis essential lightweight western shirt
  2. Ganni patterned-intarsia knitted cardigan
  3. Anthropologie Vintage Western Belt
  4. ME + EM Subtle Flare Jeans
  5. Penelope Chilvers Suede saddle belt bag
  6. Russell & Bromley Calle western suede boots

DRESS & BOOTS BETH

This, I would say, is the Beth Dutton signature look. A girly dress, but always, always worn with boots. She’s no ballet pumps or trainers girl, our Beth. At any given point she might need to saddle up and get going, so she’s always in her boots. They also make these dresses look dressy, if you know what I mean. I’m going to have to dig out those cowboy boots I felt I HAD to buy when I was in Dallas in 2023, aren’t I?

  1. Rixo Amina Floral-Print Satin-Silk Maxi Dress
  2. B&sh Coraly midi dress
  3. Russell & Bromley Saddle Up knee high leather boots
  4. Zara Suede leather cowboy boots

ON THE RANCH BETH

For me, being a casual girl at heart, this is my favourite version of Beth. Not that I’ve ridden a horse since I was about 12, but I can happily wear a good barn jacket and feel like I could be at home in the wilds of Montana. This is an outfit I can easily emulate with things I already own.

  1. Uniqlo Smooth Cotton Crew Neck Jumper
  2. Zara 100% suede contrast collar jacket
  3. Free People Rhodes Stud Belt
  4. Levis 501® 90’s Ankle Jeans
  5. Agnelle Judith leather gloves
  6. Damson Madder Cowboy Shrunken Tee
  7. Massimo Dutti Soft flat ankle boots

NICE BLOUSE AND JEANS BETH

I’ve been on a deep dive to check out the brands that she actually wears on the show and, unsurprisingly, given that she’s also a high-powered business woman, they are mainly higher-priced high street and some designer. Blouses and boots by ba&sh and Isabel Marant, and lots of Reformation and Rixo dresses. If you have a pair of western-style suede ankle boots from circa 2013 (hello, me), get them out now. Best worn with slim-leg jeans (I’m still not fully on board with the potential return of skinnies, but a slim leg with a short boot I can get on board with again.)

  1. The Outnet Etoile Isabel Marant blouse
  2. Soru turquoise double sided earrings
  3. Verna Artisan leaf beaded necklace
  4. Massimo Dutti studded leather belt
  5. M&S Fringed leather jacket
  6. The Kooples stretch slim leg jeans
  7. Isabel Marant Dewina black suede ankle boots

PLAID & DENIM BETH

I’ve modernised this one a bit but substituted the regular denim skirt with something fuller and darker. YOU can also go for the classic cowgirl look and just wear your plaid shirt with jeans and boots. Surely everyone still has a plaid shirt in their wardrobe?

  1. Rails Hunter checked woven shirt
  2. Anthropologie Horseshoe Charm Huggie Hoop Earrings
  3. Aligne Sasha indigo denim jacket
  4. H&M A Line denim shirt
  5. B&sh tan suede riding boots
  6. Anthropologie Western print scarf

BETH & RIP WEDDING STYLE

Beth was never going to be a white-dress-walking-down-the-aisle girl, oh no. So, for her wedding, she chose an oversized animal print coat worn over a very small dress. She wore gold, but I think a black mini would be an easier option if you wanted to emulate this look.

  1. Astley Clarke 14ct Gold Horseshoe Diamond Pendant Necklace
  2. Oliver Bonas Clover Rainbow Stone Horseshoe Gold Plated Stud Earrings
  3. Reformation Lace-Embroidery Woven-Blend Mini Dress
  4. River Island Brown faux fur leopard print coat
  5. French Connection gold sequin mini dress
  6. Isabel Marant leather over the knee boots

I hope you enjoyed this one. If you haven’t started Yellowstone yet, I urge you to do so. Kevin Costner has aged like a fine wine…
