I spent it all on clothes by the looks of things...

5 ways to wear white jeans

White Jeans, something I never owned until this year but this Spring/Summer I am getting fully on board with them. It helps that my children are now older and I have less chance of them smoushing a raspberry covered finger all over the front within the first 5 minutes of getting dressed. Still a very good chance I will spill Marmite covered toast face down into my lap before the end of breakfast though. That did happen last week, so it was back to regular denim that day. But what a washing machines for? We must try not to shy away from white. White is good. White screams, ‘Summer!’. White makes you feel like a grown up. Sort of.

The other fear I had about white jeans was the connotation with Essex and Liz Hurley. No offence to Essex dwellers, I’m talking more about the big-bum-blown-up-lips brigade, not making a sweeping generalisation. White jeans did seem to be the reserve of either posh totty or those aspiring to be a Kardashian, but I’m here to tell you that we can all wear them. The key is not to buy the skinny variety, skinny white jeans are where it all goes Pete Tong. Stick with a slim leg, a straight leg, a wide leg or a boyfriend style, something that’s going to be flattering and not show the outline of your knickers to the world. Talking of knickers, even with the best white jeans, you will need some attractive flesh coloured underpants. you can’t wear colours, they will show. I’ve come up with 5 pairs of jeans and 5 outfits to go with them, so here we go…

You can wear white jeans on a night out, we just need to jazz them up with a heel and smart blazer. This is an outfit that can take you from day to night — always a winner. Just change up the shoes and add a smart handbag. I love this Cher T Shirt from Top Shop. When I was in Malibu we did a drive by of her house. Not sure if she was in, but she does have an impressive display of Palm Trees. She is a total legend who clearly shares my love of a decent Palm.

I’ve always been an advocate of double denim, you just need to mix up your shades of blue to get away with it. With white jeans you can even do a triple denim look, because you are adding another colour entirely. Tan goes excellently with pale colours, so that gives me an excuse to feature this great bag from Sezane that I bought last month. It’s a perfect sized bucket bag, fully lined, has a couple of inside pockets and the leather drawstring is easy to undo for swift access to a brolly or a travel card. These jeans are white version of the blue ones I have from Baukjen. Living in them right now as they are just so comfortable

By ‘Classics’, I mean, some of my wardrobe staples, in this case the Breton Top and the Khaki Jacket. If in doubt, get them both out, they work every time I promise you. Petit Bateau do the best and most authentic Breton style tops and the quality is excellent. I won’t bang on again too much about this Baukjen Khaki Jacket,  but it is the best one I own (yes, I have more than one, I have 3, all ‘slightly’ different though you understand). This one I like as it feels more sturdy than the Top Shop one and it has side pockets, which for me are always important. By the way, I’m not sponsored by Baukjen but they have cut me a good deal with discounts, so I’ve become a bit obsessed recently!

You all own one of these right? if not why not? and don’t tell me you are too old for a biker jacket. You are not. I couldn’t be without mine. It’s 6 years old now and has seen me through many a festival, a night out, summer, winter, autumn, spring, over a dress, with dungarees, a skirt, jeans, you name it, it goes with everything. I love the monochrome look of a black leather jacket with white jeans. Add a pop of red to liven it up. How cute is this little blouse from Toppers? Adding the Chloe boots, just because they are also an absolute classic. Super expensive, Yes, but a design that sells out every season and has never dated.

Who doesn’t love a bit of leopard?, don’t save it for best, just add it to an otherwise super casual outfit to make a big impression. This Top Shop Duster coat would certainly make that impression! I am yet to purchase a pair of these Golden Goose trainers, but I feel it coming. I’ve just sold a ton of my old clothes and I’m off to Black White Denim in Wilmslow on Friday for a shopping event. They stock a good collection, so if you are in the area, please come down and help me choose a pair!

I hope this has inspired you to dig out your white jeans, if you have some. I will definitely be sporting mine again this week, hopefully without Marmite stains!
