Welcome, welcome to your big monthly round-up of seasonal outfit ideas. Here we are in November. Already. The year is flying by, and now it’s time for coats. It’s time for knits. It’s time to start wearing socks. Anyone who is doing a bare ankle this month needs a serious talking to. I’m even stocking up on my sheer pop socks to wear with my ballet flats. They’re probably deeply uncool, I’m aware of that, but unless someone is seriously inspecting my feet, who’s going to know?
As we focused solely on skirts last week, I’ve gone for a nice selection of trousers and jeans this time. For those asking about coats, I’ve included some here but I will do a full coat blog next week.
ALWAYS LOVE A BIT OF RED
I know, it’s not for everyone, but I still love a good red accent in an outfit. You don’t have to go for a jumper if you’re a little shy of such a bright colour. You could just sneak it in with a pair of socks. I think there’s something so cool about a very basic outfit worn with a bright sock and a pair of loafers. Use it next time you’re feeling stuck in a rut.

MY FAVOURITE TROUSERS
Yes, these are expensive, but you don’t need to have this exact pair – any good pair of khaki combats will work. Or keep an alert on for ‘Citizens Of Humanity dogwood flight trousers’ while browsing your second-hand site of choice if you want this pair for less. I got mine on Vinted earlier this year, and I can definitely say they have been my most-worn pair of trousers over the past seven months.
They’re great for casual day-to-day wear, but I like mine for the evening too. They look just as good worn with a cami and a smart jacket. There are more cargo outfit ideas here in case you missed it.

CABLE KNITS & MITTENS
Is there any item that says ‘Ooh, the leaves are falling, there’s a chill in the air, so let’s go and sit in a cosy pub by the fireside and drink a nice glass of malbec’ more than a cable-knit jumper or cardigan? Probably, but I’m going to run with this anyway.
I’m also going to stick my neck out and say that if you’re looking to invest in a really good coat for the winter, my top choice has to be the Jigsaw maxi city coat. I’m pretty sure I’ve recommended it every year since I bought my first one in 2019. I bought it in another colour last winter. They tend to do different colours each year. I’ve not found a better coat yet.

A ROLL NECK & CAMEL CORDS
Praise be! Corduroy season is finally upon us. I have done my wardrobe switchover, the linen has been benched and all my cord is now available to me once again. I particularly love my camel cord trousers from ME+EM that I got last year. These from Zara are very similar. I will be wearing mine with a nice black roll-neck jumper and my favourite Grenson loafers.

NAVY & AUBERGINE
A classic autumn/winter colour combination. As a ‘winter’ colour person, both of these are made for me. It’s been years since I had my colours done, but I still lean towards the shades I was told suit my skin tone. I also fondled this ME+EM jumper in real life last weekend, and I’m so tempted by it as it’s the softest thing ever.

FOR A WET DOG WALK
I’m fully aware that one doesn’t need to look especially stylish on a dog walk. I’m usually in leggings, a raincoat and old wellies, but I keep being urged by my fellow dog owners to get myself a pair of Blundstone boots for the winter months. I’m told they fare very well in the mud and the rain, and they last for years. Plus they look nicer than wellies. I’ll have to put them on my Christmas list this year.

THE JACKET IS THE OUTFIT
This is a new purchase for me, and I love it. Talitha London is a small UK brand that seems to make this jacket only but in three different prints. I discovered them while doom-scrolling late at night, and I don’t think I’ve added something to my basket faster. The statement jacket is one of my go-to items for an evening out in the winter. It’s not made to be taken off, so you can keep the rest of the look simple. Don’t forget an overcoat for the journey, and don’t be afraid to mix up your animal prints when it comes to your shoe choice.

SOFT GREYS & PINK
The lovely ladies at WAT the Brand very kindly sent me a pair of their classic pleated wide-leg trousers recently and I can highly recommend them. They’re perfect ‘work’ trousers. Smart yet also flowy and comfortable. True to size too. In order to stop looking too ‘grey’, I would add a few hints of pink to soften up this look.
