High Street Jeans and Pretty Flats

I get a lot of questions about jeans. I’m always happy to try and help and I like to think I’m getting pretty good at finding decent ones now. They also don’t have to be super expensive to be on my ‘best jeans list’, so I’ve picked out my top four pairs of high street jeans. I know Baukjen is not officially on the High Street, but we’ll gloss over that for now. Most of these jeans I have mentioned before in previous posts but thought it might be useful to have a little round-up in one post.  This is only my opinion, but I do own ALL of these jeans so I can give you my personal recommendation. Worth bearing in mind I am 5′7″ and a pretty standard size 12, with a thickish waistline, so thinner, taller girls may not find these jeans work as well, and smaller ladies might have to roll-up the ankle…

Let’s pair these jeans with some pretty flat shoes. Makes a change from trainers doesn’t it?. Although I mostly live in trainers, it is nice to have something a little more ladylike once in a while, just to smarten your jeans up a bit. My favourite flats are my Vivienne Westwood three strap ones, but annoyingly, and despite many tries, they are just not that comfortable without socks or tights, so I tend to only wear them in the winter. If anyone has any tips for avoiding blisters when you don’t want to wear socks, please do tell. M&S do some very low cut secret socks that you can just about get away with with most ballet style flats, but if possible, I do like to get rid of socks entirely come summer.

Here we go with my current top 4 pairs of High Street jeans. I should also have added the Topshop Baxter jeans — great skinny jeans without being skin tight, and a style I’ve had in my wardrobe since they first started making them, but I ran out of time. Sorry, its been a busy week!

H&M BLACK VINTAGE HIGH STRAIGHT LEG JEANS

I love these so much I have ‘double bought’. Not something I do that often, but sometimes when I find something I really love I will buy the exact same thing again so there’s a spare pair in case one gets damaged, or is in the wash when I want to wear it. I only do this with high street obviously, not made of money! I do very often buy the same items in different colours, but that’s another story. The reason I rate these jeans so highly is their most flattering fit. A high waist, that at first can feel a bit like a corset as there is barely any stretch in this denim, but run with it, you will get used to it. Keeps stomach fully in check. Roll up the hems at the ankle, they look best like that. Wear with a tucked in shirt to show off your new waist that you never thought you had. I just bought these coral red shoes from & Other Stories, beautiful colour, I haven’t worn them outside yet but am really hoping for comfort with no socks…

UNIQLO BOYFRIEND FIT JEANS

I have these in white and blue — again with the repeat buying. They come up big and have a lot of stretch, so definitely need to size down at least one size. Super cheap at only £25, real bargain high street jeans but excellent quality. Sometimes white jeans can be a bit see-through which is no good at all. These one’s are not. Pair with some really pretty jewelled flats like these from Boden and a classic Grey Sweatshirt that goes with everything.

RIVER ISLAND CASEY SLIM FIT JEANS

I recommended these before and have since had a lot of you contact me to say how much you love them too. I have the ‘black’ pair. It’s described on the website as black anyway, in reality they are grey. They come up fairly short so even if you are smaller than me, I would still advise going for the regular length rather then the shorter leg. They have a LOT of stretch so you could also size down, but I went for my regular waist size and they’ve been fine.

 BAUKJEN BOYFRIEND JEANS

These are my latest find, they are slightly more expensive than the other pairs at £99, BUT the lovely people at Baukjen have given me a code to get 20% off all full priced clothes from their Spring/Summer collection. Use the code WMM20 at checkout*. It’s valid until 27 May too! I like these ones as the fit is just so good, they are what I would describe as a slim fit boyfriend style. Made to be more fitted than a regular boyfriend style. The denim is great quality, super comfortable and with nice stretch, so I would take you regular size. If you are over about 5’6 you won’t need to roll up as they are made to be ankle length.
