First up, a disclaimer: you’ll have seen some of these pieces before, quite possibly in last month’s roundup. But, let’s be honest here – we don’t really need eight new outfits every month, and June can be very similar to May weather-wise. So I’m not apologising. We can mix and match what we already have to make new looks.
June definitely has a tendency to be a stunner one day and and a bummer the next. We only have to look at the events that happen this month to know that. Glastonbury, for one: it’s usually either so hot that you’re concerned about all those festival goers getting sunstroke (let me tell you, there is no shade at that place at all), or it’s a hellish mud bath that no one should EVER have to endure. Wimbledon is another notable event that either has Cliff entertaining the tennis lovers by singing in the rain or it’s so sunny that the on-site shop sells out of baseball caps by 11am.
I can report that I’m not going to either of these events this year, but I will be watching from the comfort of my own home, probably while wearing one of the following outfits…
DOUBLE DENIM & TEVAS
Two things that I have recommended on many occasions, but maybe not together until now. I love a co-ord, and I love it even more when it’s made from denim, and if you want some sandals that give a superior level of comfort then Tevas are the ones for you. I’m talking a level of more than 20k steps even in temperatures over 25 degrees here. My favourites (because they don’t look as ugly as most of the others) are the ‘Infinity sandals’. You might think that a pair of shoes made from lots of thin elastic strips would cause problems. They don’t. Also, the Olsen twins wear them, so if they’re good enough for the queens of minimal fashion and creators of The Row, then they’re good enough for me.

MY FAVOURITE EVERY DAY SUMMER TROUSERS
I bought these Ralph Lauren chino-type trousers in Amsterdam two years ago. They’re now entering their third summer, and I am yet to find another pair to beat them. They work perfectly with a simple white T‑shirt or vest and a loose linen shirt.

IF I WAS GOING TO WIMBLEDON…
I would wear something like this. I didn’t get picked in the ballot this year, unfortunately, but getting in two years in a row would have been pushing my luck. I’ll try again next year. I don’t even love tennis that much, but I do find the whole thing – whether watching on TV or being there – just so relaxing. I have it on as background noise when I’m working at home in June as the sound of those balls being hit back and forth is weirdly calming.

THE FLOWING SKIRT AND WHITE T SHIRT
I make no apologies for featuring three items from Massimo Dutti here, as their new summer collection is right up my strasse. Loads of lovely linen looks, cool sandals and some really interesting – yet minimal – pieces. It’s funny, because there was a Massimo Dutti shop right near my old office but I rarely went in and, when I did, it just felt like somewhere Liz Hurley would shop: all neat sweaters and white trousers. But these days it’s often one of the first places I look at on the high street. It’s quite edgy and cool now.

A GRAPHIC TEE & WHITE JEANS
As we have established in this post, there is a wealth of great graphic tees around this summer, and you don’t have to spend much to get a cool one either. H&M is queen of this look. I might be brave and wear a white one with my white jeans. I’ll stock up on the old Vanish Oxi Action powder first, as I don’t think I have ever managed to wear a pair of white jeans all day without them needing a wash right away.

A SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT AND SHORTS
This is one of my failsafe summer outfits: ideal for sightseeing either at home or away. For more shorts-based outfit ideas, have a look at this post. I love a good patterned shirt in the summer, and I have quite an extensive collection now. This Sessun denim jacket is now entering it’s fourth summer and, like those chinos I mentioned earlier, I’m yet to see one I like more.

MY FAVOURITE DESIGNER DUPE JACKET
Another thing I have featured a few times is this Uniqlo collared jacket. It’s such a perfect piece of summer outerwear and looks SO much more expensive than it is. In fact, it’s the perfect little Prada dupe. I have it in black already but I’m sorely tempted to get a cream one too for the summer. I already have this badge to make it look even more like the real thing.

ON THE BEACH
For the first time in about 16 years we have the luxury of being able to go on holiday outside school-term times. As I write, I still haven’t actually booked it, but I will do very soon and it will involve a beach, a pool and possibly a taverna or two in the evenings. I might even wear a bikini this time. I nearly did last year but I chickened out at the last minute. This time I have found a bikini that actually works for me. It’s from Left On Friday – they do a multitude of different tops and bottoms that you can mix and match. I also have this one from Boden. It’s all about the very high-waisted bottom half that I can hoik up over the belly.
