In case you had forgotten, yes, it is June. It certainly hasn’t felt like it this week. On Wednesday I contemplated putting the heating on, but I put an extra layer on and stood in front of the tumble dryer for a while instead, just to take the edge off. I am very thankful that I got four days of hot sun in Athens last weekend. I’m holding on to that until we get our own blast of heat. There’s a rumour it might come towards the end of the month, so the shorts will be ready and waiting for their big moment.
In the meantime, some of the summer sales have started, and there are great pickings to be had. Things that you can wear now and save for the autumn (which, let’s face it, is currently the same climate as right now). So this week I bring you seven outfits for the June we are actually having that are all on sale…
DON’T FORGET YOUR UMBRELLA
Because you are only one dark cloud away from a downpour. But take your sunglasses too, as there’s a high chance of getting four seasons in one day. I’m excited that Harvey Nics has my current favourite brand, YMC, in their sale. They do the most excellent trousers that work all year round.
- Skall Studio merino wool stripe jumper
- YSL oversized tortoiseshell sunglasses
- Liberty London Royal Hera Walking Umbrella
- YMC Grease barrel-leg stretch-cotton trousers
- Hush Dina Denim Shirt
- Nike Dunk Low LX NBHD leather trainers
IS THIS REALLY JUNE?
Because you might need your Barbour. If you can pick one up in the sale, I can guarantee you won’t regret it. Always stylish when inclement weather arrives at any time of the year. As perfect for festivals as for walking the dog. Also, I have this Free People sweater from last year. It’s 100% cotton, so it’s great for chilly summer days when you don’t want to bust out the winter woollens.
- Barbour Edit Catton Spey Patch Showerproof Jacket
- Hush Tuesday Graphic T‑Shirt
- Citizens Of Humanity Marcelle cotton cargo trousers
- Isabel Marant Wasy Suede Crossbody Bag
- Free People Frankie cable-knit cotton jumper
- New Balance 550 leather sneakers
OPTIMISTIC NICE WEATHER EVENT
If you’ve got a wedding coming up, I hope the sun does indeed shine down upon you. If not, wear your own sunny colours and maybe add a thermal vest under your nice dress. On a positive note, it’s actually a good time to be looking for a fancy outfit, as there are some excellent dresses in the summer sales already.
- Edge of Ember Radiant Pearl Hoop Earrings
- Monica Vinader Nura tiny Keshi adjustable pearl necklace
- ME + EM Silk Pleat Detail Short Dress
- Alemais Hotel Lamu printed ramie midi shirt dress
- Acne Studio Bow leather handbag
- Hush Hayne gold platform sandals
- ME + EM gold kitten heel sandals
A PURPLE PATCH
Something we hope the England (or whatever country you happen to support) football team will be having during the Euros this month. I am very excited for the summer of sport we have coming up. Euros! Wimbledon! OLYMPICS! And all in our time zone! There is nothing I love more than big sporting events. Waking up in the morning and popping on the TV to watch the synchronised swimming, becoming an armchair archery expert, disputing the judges’ points on the diving. I’m all in. I still stand by the fact that 2012 was the greatest-ever year to be living in London. It was pure, unadulterated joy.
- American Vintage knitted jumper
- & Other Stories relaxed fit double breasted linen blazer
- Agolde 90s straight leg jeans
- Monica Vinader Rio Gemstone ring
- Liberty London Iphis Little Marlborough Tote Bag
- Adidas Gazelle leather trainers
JUST JEANS AND A NICE TOP
This right here is my forever go-to outfit for going out. Minus the heels, obviously, as I won’t do heels unless I REALLY have to. A nice blouse, a good blazer and some smart-ish jeans. It will take you anywhere.
- ME + EM Silk Cotton Embroidered Collar Blouse
- Boden oversized tortoiseshell sunglasses
- Phase Eight Elandra Tux Blazer
- Frame Le Slouch high-rise straight-leg jeans
- Ganni Tech Leopard-Print Recycled Shell Pouch
- Whistles Lena Heeled Sandals
SORT OF SPORTY
It’s not really that sporty, but I just liked this absolute bargain of an Adidas sweatshirt so I worked an outfit around it. But I did find some great gym gear on sale too: check underneath for a few selections. I don’t like paying too much for sportswear, as I’m not one for wearing my gym clothes all day. She says as she’s sat here in her workout leggings writing this…
- Maison Kitsuné Logo-print cotton-jersey T‑shirt
- Daisy London x Shrimps Clover 18-Karat Gold-Plated necklace
- Adidas Originals pink sweatshirt
- Frame Le Long Barrel leg jeans
- Isabel Marant Small Yenky Denim Tote Bag
- ASOS 3 pack green and ecru stripe socks
- New Balance 327 trainers
SHORTS, SWIMMING COSTUMES AND SWEATERS
OK, ok, random pairing here, but I wanted to show you a couple of good swimming costume options AND the fact that this Bella Freud jumper is in the sale. I love my Hunza G costume – it’s so comfortable and stretchy, and one size really does appear to fit all. It doesn’t give huge amounts of bum coverage, though. If that’s what you are looking for then may I recommend Boden, as they do great swimwear. Even better when it’s discounted.
- Bella Freud 1970 Oversized merino wool jumper
- Hunza G Maya cutout seersucker swimsuit
- Agolde Parker Denim Cotton Shorts
- Boden Ithaca Halter Swimsuit
- Aeyde Miri leather ballet flats
Here’s hoping for improved weather conditions next week, and maybe we can look at summer dresses and nice linen things.
