No theme this week, just another quite selfish post as I’ve been playing around with outfit ideas again. I’ve based it on pieces similar to items I already own, because as well as showing you lovely things that you might want to buy, my hope is that this blog is also somewhere you can come for ideas when you’re putting a look together. I know that’s what I do. There are 8 years’ worth of posts to get into. Although, anything pre-2018 is probably best avoided. My editing and collage skills have, thankfully, improved over the years. Shout-out to Lamees who proofreads all my Sunday posts. If you think I know exactly how a semicolon works (despite getting an A in English Language), you are very much mistaken, but every day is school day.
Also, a note on Black Friday. I’m not planning on doing my big discount code round-up this year, because I feel like there’s just TOO much pressure to be buying things you don’t need. What I will do on my Instagram and LTK Shop (and possibly here) over the next week or two is show you things that I actually own and rate if they’re discounted and simple round-ups from some of my favourite retailers. Most places are starting their sales early next week, so if something catches your eye today, pop it in your basket and go back to it in a few days in case the price goes down.
Let’s have a look at some outfit inspiration for this week. And oh, hasn’t it got cold…
THE COSY ARAN KNIT
I still stand by my statement that brown doesn’t have to be boring. It’s a great, slightly ‘warmer-feeling’ alternative to black in the winter months. If you have a classic Aran sweater, it’s the perfect accompaniment to these earthy tones. For more ideas on this theme, check out this post.

COLOUR BLOCKING BURGUNDY
It’s definitely a contender for colour of the season. I like the idea of a full-on aubergine outfit. It doesn’t have to be all the exact same shades, either. I think you can mix and match all the tones to create a classy look. Long socks in this weather are a bonus, warmth-wise. Burlingtons bring back so many memories of the 80s. I’m sure it wasn’t just me and my group of friends who wore them with chunky brogues and VERY short skirts to the local under-18s disco.

BLACK & GOLD
I have this velvet skirt from Boden so I’m looking at ways to wear it. I’m thinking with a black polo neck for day (or evening), and then just switching up the accessories to make it more ‘party-like’. This jumper by Laines already has embroidery on it, but I’m also quite into adding a brooch to a coat or jumper of an evening to make it more interesting. Check out Vinted or eBay for pre-loved ones. Free People also do a good range of charms and brooches here.

DENIM AND LEOPARD
One of the oldest coats in my wardrobe is a leopard-print faux fur from Topshop that I bought 16 years ago. I’d be lying if I said it’s had much of an airing in recent years, but I have never got rid of it because I know the leopard coat cycles come around again and again. This winter I plan on wearing it with super-casual, jeans-based outfits. Just to add an extra layer of interest.

THE FLUFFY COAT
I bought this Mango coat last year, but I didn’t wear it very much. I’m not even sure why. I plan on rectifying that this winter. Ditto my Givenchy boots from 2016 – they are something I will never get rid of, along with the studded Chloe boots of 2012. I always had a feeling that both would have their moment once again, and this is officially confirmed now that high street stores are doing their own ‘homage’ to the studded designer boots.

IN THE NAVY
If you haven’t bought into the burgundy trend, how about a bit of colour-blocking using navy instead? Again, another good alternative to black. I see that Nooki Design have done a navy version of their embroidered waistcoat that I have in black and wore loads last winter. It’s a great piece for livening up a simple outfit. If you didn’t get your mitts (pun intended) on my collaboration with Black & Beech, the navy and baby-blue fingerless gloves were restocked on Wednesday. As I’m writing this on Thursday I can’t be sure if there will be any left, but hopefully there are for those who missed out first time around.

NANETTES AND FAIRISLE KNITS
Another pair of boots that, for me, are timeless: the Grenson Nanette hiker boots. I am no longer wearing my Nanettes with dresses like I did back in 2018 when I bought them, but the style will always go down a treat with jeans or trousers, and they’re especially good for dog walks followed by pub lunches.
- Boden Connie Relaxed Cotton Shirt
- Hush Chloe Brushed Fairisle Cropped Cardigan
- H&M Straight Regular Jeans
- Hayley & Co. Fingerless Angora Fairisle Gloves
- & Other Stories Loose Duffle Jacket
- DeMelllier The Midi New York Shearling Bag

I think next week we might do another ‘outdoors without being too outdoorsy’ post: puffer jackets, boots, knits and maybe even some wellies.
