All of these outfits contain one or more of my tried-and-tested spring outfit formulas, but a quick disclaimer to begin: I started working on this post when the temperature had taken a turn for the better, so I may have got a little over-optimistic about the rest of the month.
But even if you can’t use these ideas in April, you can save them in your outfit memory bank to use at a later date. Or you could add a bit of layering to them. In retrospect, adding flip flops here might have been a little ambitious too. In this country, sandals can be a big risk before we’re firmly into May. Plus, I haven’t had my biannual pedicure yet, so my feet are not for public consumption right now, but you get the gist…
THE NICE T‑SHIRT AND BLAZER
It’s the daytime equivalent of ‘just jeans and a nice top’. Look out for T‑shirts that are a touch more interesting than your basic version. We’re talking something like a ruffle, maybe a bit of a lace hem, a strong shoulder or one you can layer over a nice cami. Basically, anything that elevates it from the norm.
Add a classic black blazer (we all have one of those, surely) and some great accessories. For a simple look like this, accessories are key. A bright bag, a long necklace or some fancier earrings can make an outfit.

- Mango Metal pendant necklace
- Atelier 73 Double-Hoop diamond earrings
- M&S Mesh Asymmetric T- Shirt Top
- Massimo Dutti Linen blazer with pockets
- COS Chord Straight Leg Jeans
- Boden Raffia Moon Clutch Bag

A BRIGHT TOP WITH WHITE JEANS
White jeans season is once more upon us. I like to think you can wear them year-round, but I just never reach for them in winter. It feels like the true start of spring when I get out the white denim again. It also goes with every other colour known to man. To be fair, so does blue denim, but work with me here.

THE CUTE JACKET & WIDE LEG JEANS
I love a good cropped jacket with high-waisted wide-leg jeans. It’s a look that actually gives me a figure, when in reality I have none to speak of. I’ve highlighted these Reformation jeans before, but they need another mention as they’re such a great fit. Also, the leg length is perfect for me (at 5ft 7‑ish), as it sits just about 2mm off the ground when wearing flats, which is my ideal.
I usually have to pay my alterations lady £18 to do that for me. She seems to charge £18 for anything, and I’m very happy with that as she can make my trousers fit like the proverbial glove, which makes all the difference.

- Maria De La Orden Jacky cropped Jacket
- Whistles Brown Aviator Sunglasses
- 440ME Cotton Knitted top
- Soeur Brown Ninon Belt
- Reformation Cary High Rise Slouchy Wide Leg Jeans

A SPRING SUIT
I do love a two-piece ensemble that can be worn together or separately. I have an amazing pair of red linen trousers from ME+EM last year that I wore a lot last spring and summer. I managed to nab the matching blazer in the winter sale, so I’m very much looking forward to wearing the whole thing this year.
I’ve already decided it will be my Wimbledon outfit. I wasn’t lucky in the ballot this year, but my friend (who I took with me last time) was. Happy days. It’s a lovely day out even if you don’t know much about tennis. You know me, I love a collective sports watching activity.
Talking of summer, I have a new favourite fake tan. The Gatineau Golden Glow Gradual Tan. It doesn’t streak (if you use a mitt, always us a mitt), it lasts about a week and it doesn’t have that patchy look once it starts to fade. Highly recommended.

A MIDI SKIRT & TRENCH COAT
I love a skirt, but I do struggle with what outerwear to pair with it when it’s not quite Phil Collins weather. This Damson Madder trench fits the bill. It’s pleated, just like the one we all wanted that Nicola Walker wore in The Split. We need another TV show that gives us as much fashion inspiration. I know Claudia does well in The Traitors, but that’s only for winter. I obviously loved the style of Caroline Bessette in Love Story too. Maybe I should do a 90s minimal style post soon.

- Boden Puff Sleeve Blue Oxford Shirt
- Oliver Bonas Red Enamel Heart Hoop Earrings
- Damson Madder Sofia Pleated Trench Coat
- Arket Cotton Midi Skirt
- Damson Madder Striped Canvas Tote Bag
- Arket Leather Ballet Flats
STRIPES & BOSTON BIRKENSTOCKS
I got my Bostons out again this week. I had almost forgotten how comfortable they are and how they work for casual days. I love a pair of shoes that’s basically an acceptable version of wearing slippers out of the house.

- Zara Striped Knitted Jumper
- Monsoon Blue-Tinted Aviator Sunglasses
- The White Company Gold Hammered Hoop Earrings
- Reiss Suede Funnel-Neck Bomber Jacket
- & Other Stories Light Denim Baggy Jeans
- Hush Oversized Suede Crescent Bag
- Ivy Ellis The Boro Knitted Patchwork Socks
- Birkenstock Boston Suede Clogs
A DARK DRESS & LIGHT BLAZER
It’s standard practise for most of us to reach for our black blazer when wearing a black or dark-coloured dress, but if that makes you feel a little ‘black widow’, swap it for a lighter version. I find that a cream blazer is a bit of a workhorse during the summer months for any situation when you need to look like you’ve made an effort.

- Levis Stella Relaxed Linen Cotton Blazer
- WAT The Brand 2 Way Ruched Midi Dress
- Boden Resin Bracelet Set
- ME + EM Mini Day Bag Italian Leather
- Violette.Fr Bisou Balm Lipstick
- Tu ClothingNeutral Raffia Ballerina Shoes
KHAKI TROUSERS & RED SHOES
This is a combination I have been wearing for at least 10 years now, probably longer. Khaki trousers are a mainstay of my wardrobe in the summer. I think I will have to do a whole post on them next week as I’ve seen quite a few good pairs around at the moment. I love them with white, navy and red, but they work with so many other colours too.

- Zara Cutwork Embroidered Short Sleeve Shirt
- Rachel Jackson Dreamer Pavé Bird Stud Earrings
- Zara Herringbone Linen Blazer
- Rotary Men’s Ultra Slim Bracelet Strap Watch
- Citizens of Humanity Dogwood Flight Pants
- Massimo Dutti Suede Satchel bag
- Zara Ballet Flats with Bow
Let’s hope we get some more double-figure-weather days so we can wear our spring outfits this month.
