If you’ve been on Instagram this week you might have noticed the M&S polka dot jumpsuit. I took a running jump onto that bandwagon and bought one as soon as it came online. I’m not afraid to follow the crowd if it’s something I like. It’s a style that flatters me, and when I find that I am inclined to dive right in.
That particular jumpsuit got me thinking about jumpsuits in general. A tricky item for some people I grant you. They can be very unforgiving if you get it wrong. No-one wants a camel toe on show, and some have a tendency to make your bum look really long. I think it’s all about the positioning of the waist! My advice would be ‘if in doubt, size up’. Jumpsuits are supposed to be an easy throw-on item, a nice alternative to a dress, not something to feel stifled in. I’ve picked out 5 of my favourite styles for you. See what you think…
PATTERN JUMPSUIT
As it was this M&S number that has inspired the post, let’s start with that. I know it’s a bit ‘Marmite’, but I love it. It may well be out of stock again but I’m sure given its popularity it will be back soon, so keep the link on file if you’re on my side of the fence with this one! I wore mine with Birkenstocks this week, but you can go for trainers or even a smarter sandal and a blazer for an evening out or an event. As a side note check out my friend Zara’s jewellery store on Etsy, she’s based down in Cornwall and all pieces are hand made — she does some great stuff!

3. J Crew Navy Going Out Blazer
4. Whistles Red Marquelle Strappy Sandals
5. Topshop Red Chain Cross Body Bag
DENIM JUMPSUIT
I have been on an eternal quest for the perfect Denim Jumpsuit. I have bought a couple in the past but none have ever been quite right. Either too thick, too tight or look too cheap and flimsy. I am hoping this one from Baukjen will fill my denim jumpsuit void! Everything else I have got from there over the past 6 months or so has been great, so I have high hopes. Without sounding like a fashion w*@ker, this would be a great ‘transition’ piece. Wear now with sandals, wear later with white trainers and a T Shirt or long sleeved top underneath.

2. Mango Bella T Shirt
3. Whistles Canvas Tote Bag
4. Axel Arigato Leather Trainers
STRIPE JUMPSUIT
Is it an urban fashion myth that vertical stripes make you look thinner and taller? personally I think it is, but for the purpose of today let’s say it is, because I’ve found a ton of striped jumpsuits that would work. This one from H&M is a classic, but I also love this one from Mango in cream. I know I’ve featured this Sezane bucket bag a few times, but it’s a great bag so I’m featuring again. I’ve had mine for 3 months now, I use it all the time and it just looks better the more worn in it gets, which isn’t something you can say for many things, my face for one…
1. H&M Black and White Stripe Jumpsuit
2. Weekday ‘Smith’ Denim Jacket
3. Dune White Leather Flatform Sandals
4. & Other Stories Pink Round Sunglasses
5. Sezane ‘Farrow’ Bucket Bag
BOILERSUIT
What is the difference between a jumpsuit and a boilersuit? Is there any? I would say that a boiler suit is your classic ‘car mechanic overalls’ look. One I favour, but also one that elicits a barrage of ‘hilarious’ comments from my family. I’ve learnt to tune them out. I mean how can a man who wears crocs, a boy who favours sliders and socks and a teenager who wears trousers 3 sizes too small so they flap around his ankles tell me what looks good or bad? I love a boiler suit. This one from Cos is my favourite. It keeps going in and out of stock, but again, keep and eye on it as Cos are pretty good at restocking popular items.

SLEEVELESS JUMPSUIT
Finally, the summer sleeveless jumpsuit. Something for your holidays if you haven’t been yet, or just for around town if the heatwave continues. I love this New Look one, comes in loads of colours too if red isn’t your bag. Go for a bit of a 50’s style with this leopard print headband, classic denim jacket and some cute flats.

2. New Look Yellow Leopard Print Headband
3. J Crew Classic Denim Jacket
4. Sezane Suzanne Ballerina Flats

How do you feel about jumpsuits? are you in? or do you fear the all-in-one?
