Six Trainer Trends For 2025

We love trainers. When I say ‘we’, I really mean me. I basically live in them, although recently I have been attempting to be slightly smarter by replacing trainers with loafers every so often. But, as a general rule, comfort is king and therefore trainers win the day. Because of my love for this footwear, I feel I am a minor expert. However, these six trainer trends we’re about to look at are absolutely not 100% official. This list comes from inside my own head, from styles I have been lusting after and a couple I have tried over the past few months, and it also takes into account the shoes I have seen ‘cool’ people wearing out and about recently. You may agree with these, you may not, but let’s have look at what I think will be big in the sneaker world this year…

AUTRY TRAINERS

I have fought the urge to get my foot in the door with this brand until recently, mainly because I feared they would be as uncomfortable as Vejas. I know everyone’s feet are different but I find that brand to be almost unwearable, although I love the retro styling. Autry trainers have a very similar look, but I can confirm that they are WAY more comfortable. I love the look of them with black socks and khaki trousers or jeans. Basically, a really good all-rounder trainer that will work throughout the year with many outfits. Another style that is similar and also super comfy is the classic Reebok Club C.

ANIMAL PRINT TRAINERS

The elusive leopard Adidas Sambas, apparently coming into stock this week.

I know, I know, leopard never goes out, but if 2024 was the year of the leopard trousers, then in 2025 it’s the turn of leopard trainers. Much easier to wear if you merely want to dip a toe into animal print. And if leopard is not your print of choice, I have noticed there are also some cow print and zebra print options popping up too.

SILVER TRAINERS

Or any metallics really, but silver is definitely the key trend this year. You can thank Adidas and Wales Bonner for kick-starting this one when they released a high-shine version of their sell-out Samba collab back in June 2023. As we know, sometimes it takes a couple of years for designer things to filter down to the mainstream, and now there is a wealth of silver trainers to choose from. My favourites are from Adidas, Gola and Alohas. More on Alohas in a bit.

BROWN SUEDE TRAINERS

Now, we all know that brown is the new black for 2025, and suede is THE most fashionable fabric in which to wear your mocha hues. So it makes sense that brown suede trainers will be an easy way to find your feet with this trend. My favourite pair are these from Jeffrey Campbell: they’re a blatant ‘homage’ to the Miu Miu version of 2024, especially if you mix up the laces…

SWITCH UP THE LACES

Miu Miu started this trend but we can do it on a shoestring…

Talking of laces, the easiest way to update trainers you already own and put your best foot forward for 2025 is to switch up your laces. Again, we have Miu Miu to thank for this easy update. A new pair of laces in an alternative colour or shape can completely change the way you wear your current trainers. You can tie in the laces with the rest of your outfit, or else go the whole hog and wear three different types all at once. Amazon or Etsy are good places to look for interesting laces. I like the round ones best. You need about 120cm in length to wear with 6–8 hole trainers.

ALOHAS TRAINERS

Alohas is a brand to have on your radar if you get a kick out of wearing more interesting fabrics and colours on your feet. Again, I love the retro style and it’s something of an alternative to the ubiquitous Sambas and Gazelles. But don’t get me wrong, I still love my Adidas and I’m sure I always will.
