I spent it all on clothes by the looks of things...

Block Rockin’ Boots (and shoes)

As a rule I’m not a fan of high heels. I love the look of them, but I can’t walk in them properly. I can’t run for a bus in them, I can’t dance in them. They hurt my feet, and I have an irrational fear of getting a heel stuck in the escalator at the tube station and being sucked  forever into the Upside Down like Barb*.

I have tried in the past to get to grips with a highly heel. I once spent a small fortune on a pair of Mulberry stilettos that I wore for one night only. They hurt so bad that by the end of the evening I wanted gouge my own eyes out with the pointy heel just to take my mind off the crippling agony of the poor feet. Since then I have sworn off anything over 3 inches (not a euphemism). I know they make your legs look nice and all that, but nice legs with an accompanying walk like John Wayne do not for an attractive sight make, mark my words. All power to you if you can go about your daily business in a 5 inch heel. I salute you. I especially salute the lady I saw at Earls Court last week who skipped up the stairs in 6 inch Louboutins, a pencil skirt, 2 suitcases and small child. I would have been on the floor weeping if I were in her shoes (literally).

Luckily there is an alternative out there for people like me. Its called The Block Heel. It can give you a bit of leg length, or if you are on the short side, a bit of a boost height-wise too, and it can do this without the fear of a nasty fall. The high street is choc full of sensible heels. Let’s start with some fancy boots…

Here’s some plainer, more everyday boots. I’d like to think these could be worn all day wth fear of an escalator incident…

Now some shoes. Some may say a block heel shoe is just for Grannies and the Queen, but Our Liz is in her 90’s and still going strong in a nice block heel court shoe, so there has to be something to be said for that. I particularly like the Red M&S lovelies, you can get 20% off all M&S gear until Oct 24th with this code OCT16A16 (see previous post for more Marks picks)

Lastly, the aspirational. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Everyone deserves at least one pair of designer shoes in their arsenal, and if we are talking about block heels, then no-one does it better than Gucci. You knew I was going to say that didn’t you…

*If you don’t know what The Upside Down is then get with the program and watch ‘Stranger Things’ on Netflix right away. If you grew up in the 80’s watching Poltergeist or the Goonies, you will love it.
