Fashion trends can be annoying as a lot of them are just complete flash-in-the-pans that won’t last us until Christmas, but sometimes (and especially at this time of year) you do want a little bit of a wardrobe refresh to drag you into the new season.

I have said it before but I LOVE this time of year for fashion. It harks back to school days where you had carte blanche to get a new pair of shoes, and a maybe a coat and a bag. of course in those days your mum had final say, but as grown-ups we now have our own free will when it comes to shopping and if we want to get a little something we absolutely can.

This week I have picked out 7 trends that I would like to wear in the coming months. Actually it’s 9 as some of these contain more than one trend, so let us have a look.

THE DISC BELT

If there’s one small update you can make then let it be a belt. Belts can instantly make you feel on trend and they can totally change the look of an otherwise very ordinary outfit. This season the one to have is anything with a disc buckle. There are loads to choose from the high street and they were all inspired by this one from Celine. I bought this one from Zara and I plan on wearing it just like this with a simple black top, jeans and low heeled boots.

BASEBALL & HENLEY T‑SHIRTS

Here’s 3 trends in one for you. The two-colour long-sleeve baseball t shirt is having a moment, as it the double layer Henley top. What are we wearing these with? well. we are wearing them with our cargo pants. is it 1997 all over again? Maybe, but I am happy with that as I loved wearing my cargos and a long sleeve t‑shirt back then and I shall enjoy it once more this year.

SMART-YET-CASUAL WORK BAGS

This style all stems from the Chanel maxi flap bag and the Balenciaga Rodeo Bag. They are semi-structured bags but made from soft and squishy leather, so they bridge the gap between work and casual bag. Usually big enough to fit a lap-top in, but also cool enough to use every day. Cos have done one that keeps selling out, but Mango also have a version and I love the look of this one from Fabrique.

CHECK SKIRTS & BURGUNDY JACKETS

Another one with 2 trends. I know burgundy is always a colour that comes out during autumn and winter but specifically I am seeing a lot of jackets in this colour. It work great with black, navy and denim, which is good for me as that’s the majority of my winter wardrobe. Checks are going to be big again this year, most notably in skirts. I liek the idea of a maxi check skirt with a chunky knit or even a full matching co-ord like this from Cos.

COBALT BLUE

If you fancy a bit of colour in your life but you’re not sure which one, then may I politely suggest cobalt blue. It’s popping up all over the high street this year and it gives a real lift to all those browns we bought last year. I would probaly go for a cardi or a jumper that I can later over a white shirt or t‑shirt for a nice contrast. I’m also seeing purple pop up a bit too, but I need to have a think as to waht colours work best with that. I will do a colour-focused post soon.

FUNNEL NECK JACKETS

This one started to make headway last year, so you may well already have one of these, if so, well done to you as a funnel neck is the coolest jacket to be seen in this autumn. It’s also quite good if it rains as it stops the wet dripping down the back of your neck and can keep the wind out too before scarf season begins.

BOHO GOTH

OK, so I made this one up, but only because I want to start wearing the most expensive pair of shoes I ever bought again this year. I notice the Chloe still sell these boots, I bought mine in 2012 so they are practically vintage now, but I still remember that rush of adrenaline when I parted with vast amounts of cash for them.

I think this year I am going to wear them with a long black dress, but one that’s got some interest, maybe a bit of lace, some satin or a a few sheer panels. I think any good biker style ankle boot would work for this if you have some lurking in your wardrobe somewhere — get them out!
