What to Wear in February: 7 Easy Outfit Ideas

We can all breathe a sigh of relief now that the longest month of the year is over. The days are getting lighter, and the weather has the potential to become marginally warmer. I know — the cheek of me even talking about the weather when I’ve just returned from a week where the temperature rarely dropped below 27 degrees. Don’t worry, my tan will have faded before you even reach the end of this sentence.

I should say again, though, that if you’re off on holiday anytime soon, the best swimming costumes money can buy (to my mind) are by Hunza G. So comfortable and, even though they only come in one size, weirdly flattering to most body shapes too. Trust me on this.

But back in the real world, we face a month in far less tropical climes, so here are seven easy outfit ideas for you to consider in February.

A SWEATER THAT’S SO CHANEL

Chanel decreed during their last fashion show that the half-zip sweater is the must-have piece for the coming season. No longer the domain of the city bro (usually worn with a Boss gilet), this humble item of knitwear is now de rigueur for the most fashionable females around. It’s also an easy way to update your wardrobe this month. Smarten it up by wearing it with a blazer, silk scarf and some simple loafers.

  1. Mango Zip Collar Jumper
  2. Lily Silk Mid Century Pattern Scarf
  3. Missoma Molten Heart Earrings
  4. Anine Bing Kate Leather Belt
  5. Massimo Dutti Extra Fine 2 Button Blazer
  6. Reformation Cary High Rise Slouchy Jeans
  7. Uniqlo 3 pairs of ribbed socks
  8. M&S Suede Loafers

THE HERO JACKET

I love this little embroidered jacket from Rixo. It’s the perfect piece to elevate your ‘if in doubt, wear black’ outfits. I would pair it with jeans and comfortable block-heel boots and layer an overcoat on top for cold evenings out. It would look equally as cool over a plain black maxi dress or wide-leg black trousers.

  1. Rixo Denver Embroidered Velvet Jacket
  2. Ottoman Hands Moon and Star Earrings
  3. La Redoute Oversized Wool Blend Coat
  4. Abercrombie High Rise 90s Relaxed Jeans
  5. Free People Eva Embellished Tote
  6. Air & Grace Queenie Suede Ankle Boots

STILL THINKING ABOUT THESE TRAINERS

I’ve been eyeing up these Salomon trainers since last spring, but I still can’t quite work out whether they will work with the rest of my wardrobe. Then again, I do love a comfy new trainer option, so chances are I will take the plunge on these soon. I would wear them with baggy (possibly cropped) jeans and a bomber-style jacket. This one from Boden looks very cool. Are we allowed to say Boden and ‘cool’ in the same sentence now, or is that showing our age? It’s all about how you wear it.

  1. Boden Borg Detail Bomber Jacket
  2. Souer Serena Wool-Blend Baseball Cap
  3. WNU Classic Denim Shirt
  4. COS Barrel Leg Denim Drawstring Trousers
  5. Arket Terry Sweatshirt
  6. COS Blue Suede Cross Body Bag
  7. Salomon XT‑6 trainers

A NOD TO VALENTINES

Valentine’s Day might not be your thing, but at the very least it gives us a theme for dressing around that time. Here’s another Boden piece that has surprised me. A heart-motif coat is not just for February – it could be a talking point on any chilly day of the year.

  1. Whistles Cashmere Seam Navy Jumper
  2. COS Long sleeve T Shirt
  3. House Of Bruar Lambswool Ribbed Beanie Hat
  4. Dehanche Hollyhock Leather Belt
  5. Boden Cocoon Wool Heart Coat
  6. ME + EM Extreme Taper Textured Trousers
  7. Gucci Borsetto medium boston bag
  8. Grenson Susanna Hi Shine Leather Moccasins

LEATHER JACKET WEATHER?

Will it be leather-jacket weather this month? I don’t know for sure, but there’s a good chance we’ll get a couple of days when we can ditch our winter coats and slip on a leather bomber. If you’re thinking of updating your leather game, the new style for this year is the funnel-neck blouson. I bought this one from All Saints in the Black Friday sale back in November, and I’m very much looking forward to wearing it soon.

  1. Arket Funnel Neck Leather Jacket
  2. Celine Thin Aviator Glasses
  3. Monica Vinader Tapered Huggie Earrings (use code KATEHMV20 for 20% off)
  4. Uniqlo JW Anderson Boxy Shirt
  5. ME + EM Pleat Tapered Wool Trousers
  6. Essentiel Antwerp The ‘Bobbi’ bag
  7. ME + EM Stripe Crop Jumper Brushed Cashmere
  8. Adidas Japan Snake Print Trainers

SUEDE IS STILL A THING

If you bought into the suede trend last year, you’re in luck: it’s not going anywhere, and brown is still the overriding colour. I’m going to try to be less afraid of rain when it comes to wearing this fabric. I’ve invested in a large can of suede protector and plan to dive headfirst into wearing the many jackets and shoes I’ve collected over the past two years, all of which have been woefully underworn thus far.

  1. Monsoon Embroidered Collar Polka Dot Blouse
  2. Daisy London Shrimps Double Heart Personalised Necklace
  3. Rise & Fall Brown Suede Trench Coat
  4. Amanu Tugela croc-effect leather belt
  5. Reiss Stretch-Cotton Wide-Leg Jeans
  6. Mango Oval shoulder bag
  7. Rixo Rey Chocolate Suede Boots

FRENCH GIRL STYLE

I’m going back to Paris this month. This time, I’ll make my husband, rather than my son, trail around all the cool French-girl brand shops with me. I’m sure there will be a bench somewhere he can sit on. I now know the exact locations of Sessùn, Sézane and Merci in relation to the hotel, so I can be straight in there with no messing about. I also know how easy it is to get any tax back at the Eurostar terminal, so I’ll feel no guilt should I purchase anything.

  1. La Redoute Cable Knit Cardigan
  2. La Redoute Crew Neck Jumper in Fine Knit
  3. Souer Ninon Natural Leather belt
  4. Sessun Manhattan Wide Leg Trousers
  5. Sessun Hugues Utility Jacket
  6. Sezane Gabin Suede Tote Bag
  7. Sezane Adam Leather Loafers

If nothing else, February is a short month and March is officially spring, so that really is something to look forward to.
