7 Ways to Wear Your Stripes This Season

Some things never go out of fashion. For me, that includes wide leg jeans, a really good pair of loafers, a perfect blazer, and STRIPES. The styles may come and go, the sleeve lengths might change and the collar could alter, but you can’t beat a classic striped top.

This season, the collar and the double-colour stripe is the new variation. We can thank Miu Miu and Prada for this yet again. It seems like anything Mrs Prada comes up with will almost always filter down to the high street within a year or so. Her looks tend to stick around for quite a while, too. Case in point: Miu Miu showcased their eponymous leather boat shoes in October 2023. Fast forward to now, and they have gone fully mainstream – every brand has their own version, with options for all budgets. Kudos to anyone who spotted that trend early. Same goes for the resurgence of the stripe polo shirt, which is such an easy way to update your early autumn looks.

Let’s have a look at seven fresh ways with stripes for the new season.

MIU MIU INSPIRED

Along with those aforementioned boat shoes, the Miu Miu-style trainers are also coming to your favourite high street shop this season. This pair from Hush is a prime example: the retro style is somewhat smarter than your usual Nike or Adidas. You can also mix and match your laces to make them work with any outfit.

  1. Rotate Stripe Knit Polo Shirt
  2. Celine D‑Frame tortoiseshell acetate sunglasses
  3. Massimo Dutti High neck linen blend bomber jacket
  4. Hush Polly Suede Belt
  5. Uniqlo Baggy Curve Jeans
  6. M&S Suede Bowler Bag
  7. Hush Suede Slimline Retro Trainers

THE DOUBLE- COLOUR STRIPE

If classic crew-neck T‑shirts are more your thing when it comes to stripes, but you fancy a little A/W 2025 upgrade, look out for the double-colour stripe. It’s the perfect casual everyday option.

  1. H&M Loose-fit cotton top
  2. Mint Velvet Burgundy Geometric Print Square Neck Scarf
  3. Hush Supersoft Denim Melinda Jacket
  4. Toast Cotton Canvas Pleat Front Trousers
  5. & Other Stories Suede Bowling Bag
  6. Autry Reelwind Suede Trainers

WITH YOUR DENIM MINI

It might be a bit too early for a trench coat, and I don’t want to wish the summer away, but I do like the idea of a denim mini worn with a striped top and trench coat before my tan finally fades for the winter. This one from Sézane is top of my wish list. I nearly bought it in Paris (did I mention I had been there?), but they didn’t have my size in stock. This was probably a blessing, as I can now contemplate it a bit longer instead of making that impulse purchase. This look will work equally as well with tights when it gets colder. I may have just talked myself into it now.

  1. & Other Stories Long-Sleeve Jersey Top
  2. Missoma Chunky Beaded Gemstone Necklace
  3. Vivienne Westwood Jacquard The Wallace Watch
  4. Sezane Clyde Trench Coat
  5. H&M A line Denim Mini Skirt
  6. Charles & Keith Wisteria Shoulder Bag
  7. Mint Velvet Bea Burgundy Leather Ballet Flats

SMART MONOCHROME

Something for those contemplating their ‘back to work’ look. I will do a full post next month with some more ‘sort-of-smart-for-work’ ideas. I’ll also include some bags that can fit a laptop inside. We can start with this one from Alēo that’s very roomy without being too big.

  1. M&S Jersey Stripe Top
  2. Massimo Dutti 100% extra fine wool blazer
  3. COS Wide Leg Cotton Trousers
  4. Mint Velvet Leather Eyelet Belt
  5. Alēo Tessa Woven Leather Shoulder Bag
  6. Grenson Susanna Gloss Leather Moccasins

PERFECTLY PREPPY

Think of this as country club chic but with a modern edge. Deryane Tadd (owner of The Dressing Room boutique in St. Albans) coined this look ‘clubhouse cool’, and I think it sums it up perfectly. Wear your polo stripes with a midi skirt and loafers. High pony tail and ankle socks optional.

  1. Sandro Polo Knit Top
  2. M&S Square Preppy Sunglasses
  3. Mercules Carri Teja Leather bag
  4. COS Navy Cotton Utility Jacket
  5. Toast Pleated Cotton Linen Skirt
  6. H&M Faux Leather Loafers

WITH THOSE BOAT SHOES

Yes, I do think you can wear these even when boats are not on the scene (i.e. not on holiday or in the summer), and they are the perfect accompaniment to a striped polo shirt and chino-style trousers or jeans. Go the whole hog and add a barn jacket. Yes, they are still a thing this season, too.

  1. John Lewis Cotton Pique Short Sleeved Striped Polo Shirt
  2. Monica Vinader Signature Link Hoop Earrings (use KATEHMV20 for 20% off)
  3. ME + EM Contrast Waist Tapered Chinos
  4. Miu Miu Beau nappa leather bag
  5. H&M Corduroy Collar Jacket
  6. Hush Leather Boat Shoes

WEEKEND CASUAL

Another ‘clubhouse cool’ look. In fact, I may have to do a full blog post on this genre as it’s right up my strasse. Of course, the master of this kind of look is Ralph Lauren, specifically the Polo range.

  1. Polo Ralph Lauren Stripe Top
  2. Rock On Ruby Personalised Cap
  3. Missoma Sculptural Chubby Small Hoops
  4. H&M Navy Windbreaker Jacket
  5. Citizens of Humanity Ayla high-rise wide-leg jeans
  6. Uniqlo Multi Pocket Shoulder Bag
  7. Sandro Suede Boat Shoes

I hope this has given you some inspiration for wearing your stripes this coming week.
