Fashion trends can be annoying, as a lot of them are complete flash-in-the-pans that won’t last us until Christmas, but sometimes (and especially at this time of year) you want a bit of a wardrobe refresh to drag you into the new season.
I’ve said it before, but I LOVE this time of year for fashion. It harks back to school days when you had carte blanche to get a new pair of shoes, and maybe a coat and a bag. Of course, in those days your mum had final say, but as grown-ups we now have our own free will when it comes to shopping, and if we want to get a little something we absolutely can.
This week I’ve picked out seven trends that I would like to wear in the coming months. Actually, it’s ten, as some of these contain more than one trend, so let’s have a look.
THE DISC BELT
If there’s one small update you can make, then let it be a belt. They can instantly make you feel on trend, and can totally change the look of an otherwise very ordinary outfit. This season the one to have is anything with a disc buckle. There are loads to choose from on the high street and they were all inspired by this one from Celine. I bought this one from Zara and I plan on wearing it just like this, with a simple black top, jeans and low-heeled boots.

- Massimo Dutti V Neck Knit Sweater
- Accessorize Filigree Disc Drop Earrings
- Farm Rio Denim Embroidered Shirt
- Arket Black Leather Disc Belt
- Citizens Of Humanity Annina Wide Leg Jeans
- Free People Leila Leather Tote Bag
- Lisa Eldridge Baume Melting Lipstick
- Arket Leather Sock Ankle Boots
BASEBALL & HENLEY T‑SHIRTS
Here are three trends in one for you. The two-colour long-sleeved baseball T‑shirt is having a moment, as is the double-layer Henley top. What are we wearing these with? Well, we’re wearing them with our cargo pants. Is it 1997 all over again? Maybe, but I’m happy with that as I loved wearing my cargos and a long-sleeved T‑shirt back then, and I shall enjoy it once more this year.

- Hush Blake Baseball Long Sleeve T‑Shirt
- M&S Pure Cotton Cord Funnel Neck Bomber Jacket
- Zara Cotton Cargo Trousers
- Adidas Elongated Airliner Bag
- Gerard Darel Layered Henley Top
- Autry Reelwind Suede Trainers
SMART-YET-CASUAL WORK BAGS
This style stems from the Chanel maxi flap bag and the Balenciaga rodeo bag. They’re semi-structured bags but made from soft and squishy leather, so they bridge the gap between work and casual bags. Usually big enough to fit a laptop in, but also cool enough to use every day. COS have done one that keeps selling out, but Mango also have a version, and I love the look of this one from Fabrique.

- ME + EM Perfectly Proportioned Shirt
- COS Double-Faced Wool Uniform Jacket
- Arket Barrel ‑Leg Trousers
- Balenciaga Rodeo Leather Bag
- Etsy Personalised Italian Leather Slouchy Shoulder Bag
- Topshop Lillie ribbed socks
- M&S Leather Loafers
CHECK SKIRTS & BURGUNDY JACKETS
Another one with two trends. I know burgundy always comes out in autumn and winter, but I’m specifically seeing a lot of jackets in this colour. Burgundy works great with black, navy and denim, which is good for me as that’s the majority of my winter wardrobe. Checks are going to be big again this year, most notably in skirts. I like the idea of a checked maxi skirt with a chunky knit, or even a full matching co-ord like this from COS.

- COS Draped Checked Top
- Massimo Dutti Narrow sunglasses
- Per Una Leather Funnel Neck Jacket
- COS Draped Check Midi Skirt
- Gucci Mercato Medium Tote Bag
- Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick
- Nobody’s Child Leather Ballet Mules
COBALT BLUE
If you fancy a bit of colour in your life but you’re not sure which one to go for, may I politely suggest cobalt blue. It’s popping up all over the high street this year, and it gives a real lift to all those browns we bought in 2025. I would probably go for a cardi or a jumper that I can layer over a white shirt or T‑shirt for a nice contrast. I’m also seeing purple quite a bit too, but I need to have a think about which colours work best with it. I’ll do a colour-focused post soon.

- Marame Arla Cashmere Blend Crew Neck
- Levis Harlie Boyfriend Shirt
- Finisterre Brown Light Cord Trousers
- Zara Suede Tote Bag
- ME + EM Heritage Icon Oversized Blazer
- Nike Moon Shoe Trainers
FUNNEL NECK JACKETS
This one started to make headway last year, so you may well already have one of these. If so, well done to you, as a funnel neck is the coolest jacket to be seen in this autumn. It’s also quite good if it rains as it stops the wet dripping down the back of your neck, and it can keep the wind out too before scarf season begins.

- Massimo Dutti Technical bomber jacket
- Daisy London Polly Tidal Fish Chain Necklace
- Hush Rosie Regular Fit Cotton T‑Shirt
- ME + EM Crop Engineered Jeans
- Mango Suede bucket bag
- Gerard Darel Fine Knit V Neck Jumper
- Le Bon Shoppe Girlfriend Socks
- Nokwol Atlas Low-Top Trainers
BOHO GOTH
OK, so I made this one up, but only because I want to start wearing the most expensive pair of shoes I have ever bought again this year. I notice that Chloe still sell these boots. I bought my pair in 2012, so they’re practically vintage now, but I still remember that rush of adrenaline when I parted with vast amounts of cash for them.
I think this year I’m going to wear them with a long black dress, but one that’s got some interest – maybe a bit of lace, some satin or a few sheer panels. I think any good biker-style ankle boots would work for this look, so if you have some lurking in your wardrobe somewhere, get them out!

- Marant Etoile Pamena Maxi Dress
- Rixo Thome Gold Plated Earrings
- H&M Appliquéd viscose dress
- Massimo Dutti Medium Nappa Leather Bag
- Chloe Susanna studded leather ankle boots
- All Saints Maddie Ankle Leather Biker Boots
Next week I might do another sort-of-smart-for-work post, and I’ll start thinking of some good colour combos to try later this month.
