Wears My Money

I mean, really...

How to shop the sales

Welcome to the bumper annual January sales post, even though, yes, it is still technically December. If you’ve been around for a while, you will be well aware of my ‘5 rules for shopping the sales’, but for those of you who are new, here they are…

My 5 rules when shopping in the sales are to ask yourself these questions:

  1. Did you contemplate buying it at full price ?
  2. Does it fill a hole you have in your wardrobe ? (metaphorically)
  3. Will you wear it more than 10 times ?
  4. Do you love it and can’t live without it ?
  5. Can you afford it?

If you can say ‘yes’ to most of these 5 rules, then go ahead. You shall buy and your life will be complete. Well, maybe not, but you might feel good for a while, and that’s basically the best we can hope for these days.

Here’s my pick of the sales for you. All of these items are discounted and I have tried to select things that still have a range of sizes left. They are all things I loved at full price, but could maybe not justify the spend at that time. I haven’t put the prices or discounts on as sometimes they fluctuate, Like special extra discount days that maybe don’t apply at the time of writing, so always check out the homepage of the site for any extra deals just in case.

Also, it’s worth holding your nerve if you can, as many companies will  inevitably be discounting more heavily as we get into January. I’m rubbish at doing this as I worry my dream item will sell out if I don’t buy it the instant I see it on sale, but you may be made of sterner stuff.

A BIT BRIGHT

I can’t help it, I’m always drawn to colour and I’m loving this Isabel Marant reversible fleece jacket. Also I bought this Mulberry bag for my birthday last year at full price.

1. House of Sunny Day Tripper cardigan

2. Mulberry Alexa apricot leather bag

3. Isabel Marant reversible fleece jacket

4. Frame slouch distressed boyfriend jeans

5. Converse All Star high top trainers

SORT OF OUTDOORSY

It’s not really very outdoorsy but I’ve included some quilted jackets and hiking boots so we’ll say it’s a theme.

1. Ba&sh cream wool knitwork jumper

2. Anya Hindmarch multi-pocket cross body bag

3. Barbour Kilmory quilted jacket

4. Frame Le Sylvie straight leg jeans

5. Grenson brown leather Nanette boots

ALL THE DRESSES

Because we all love a good dress, especially when it’s discounted. I love ME + EM dresses but I only ever buy them in the sale.

1. ME + EM Fern floral print maxi dress

2. Kin corduroy long sleeve dress

3. Sosander knee high leather boots

4. Ganni crystal button leather loafers

A LITTLE BIT OF MARANT (and similar)

I always look out for Isabel Marant on sale at this time of year. She will always have my heart, but I can only really justify when it’s reduced.

1. Isabel Marant suede and leather cross body bag

2. Astrid & Miyu gold plated crystal earrings

3. Hush clove cord jumpsuit

4. Anine Bing fishbone blazer

5. Isabel Marant Susee suede ankle boots

SORT OF SPORTY

Not sporty at all, but I’m running out of titles. Flannels has all the oversized Bella Freud jumpers on sale and I love them all. If you’re thinking about spending your Christmas money on one, take your regular size, they don’t come up that big.

1. Sandro wool and leather varsity jacket

2. Anya Hindmarch recycled plastic cross body bag

3. Bella Freud oversized Lion wool jumper

4. Agolde 90s crop grey jeans

5. Autry Medalist leather trainers

COUNTRY CASUALS

I feel like this could be a off duty look for K Mids at Sandringham on New Year’s Day. Brora is another of those brands that I always look out for on sale. Especially the knitwear, it’s excellent quality and lasts for years.

1. Brora wool fairisle yoke cardigan

2. Gucci logo embossed leather shoulder bag

3. Brora organic cotton frill blouse

4. Karen Millen high rise wide leg jeans

5. Hush suede western style boots

WINTER IN THE CITY

Sort of smart for back to work. Some of us are lucky enough to not be thinking about that just yet, still a few days left to eat the cheese and the chocolate.

1. Mango crew neck fairisle style sweater

2. Mango herringbone oversized coat

3. Cos wide leg wool mix trousers

4. Little Liffner leather tote bag

5. D.A.T.E court 2.0 trainers

So there you have it. I shall wish you all a Happy New Year now because by the time the next post comes we should have stopped saying it. Ideally my cut off date is January 5th latest, but people do love to drag it out.
