Wardrobe Staples — The Wide Leg Cropped Trouser

Stick with me here, I know this kind of wide leg cropped trouser doesn’t appeal to all, but I do think it’s here to stay and I hope to prove that they can work pretty hard for you. It’s not a culotte, they are a little bit ‘2014’. We’re also not talking about a full length wide leg, some shops call it ‘awkward length’ and I’m down with that.

Here’s why I like these trousers; In the bleak midwinter you can wear tights underneath and not feel like you’re going to get too much of a sweaty gusset as the loose fit is good for an airy feel. At this time of year you can move on to a pop sock or knee-high woolly one, no they are not attractive, but you are only going to see a portion of it, yet still get the benefit of warmth. In the summer you can go brazen bare leg, secret sock, or god-willing, no sock at all and a sandal. A full year of awkward trouser wearing awaits.

These trousers can also be worn for casual or for dressy. Casual, go for some trainers or loafers, smarten it up with a block heel sandal or a boot. I have worn mine on every occasion. I also think the wideness makes your ankles look skinny. Shallow? Yes, but I don’t think you can actually lose weight on your ankles can you? so every little helps…

Here’s some styling ideas for you. I know I have previously mocked and ridiculed the Per Una department of M&S, but I strolled through the shop the other day and came across these red beauties, so for now, I make an exception. You’ll not see me in a waterfall cardi and handkerchief hem paisley skirt anytime soon though…

1. Red Crop Trousers — M&S
2.  Crepe Bomber Jacket — Iris and Ink at The Outnet
3. Cashmere mix Stripe Jumper — Boden (on sale)
4. Adidas Stan Smith — Office
5. Leather Ring Handbag — & Other Stories

This one is my ideal early spring outfit. I have this Warehouse coat and I love it. It’s nice and roomy so can be layered up with a denim jacket if it’s cold, but will also work for the coming months when (hopefully) we see a few warmer days. A Gucci bag of lust for you too…

1. Pink top — Mango
2. Camel Coat — Warehouse
3. Light Denim Trousers — Mango
4. Bow Sneakers — Joshua Sanders
5. Gucci Garden Tote Bag (swoon)

An all black everything evening look with some block heel sandals. Love these scalloped crop trousers from Mango. In fact Mango is another shop (like Warehouse) that has got way better over the past few years. I never went in there much before, but I love it now. Seems a little less ubiquitous than Zara…

1. Leather Bag — Whistles
2. Scallop Edge Crop Trousers — Mango
3. Block Strap Sandals — Top Shop
4. Velvet Collar Jacket — Maje
5. Spot Silk Shirt — & Other Stories

Finally a boyish look with a nice check shirt and jumper combo. Plus it’s an excuse to drool over these loafers. They are from the Men’s department at Gucci, and I love them. Plus they are cheaper than the ladies version. Why is that? Still very expensive, but I have already started saving and rummaging through the wardrobe to see what I can sell on eBay to raise funds! They Have BEES on them for heaven sake!

1. Beige Wide Leg Crop Trousers — & Other Stories
2. Oversize check shirt — & Other Stories
3. Fur Lined Loafers — Gucci
4. Black Jumper — & Other Stories
5. Half Moon Bag — APC

So, there you go. I hope you liked some of them and that you come join me in a pair of flappy ankle-baring trousers soon!
