Wardrobe Staples — The Khaki Jacket

The clocks have gone forward. We’ve all felt just slightly ‘off’ all week because of it. Like some weird one-hour jet lag, but that does mean it is now officially Spring people! I know, I know it doesn’t feel like it, as we are all still wearing our winter gear and haven’t packed away the 100 deniers just yet, and don’t get me started on the bloody RAIN! But this week we did have that one day, I think it was Monday, where my thoughts turned to slightly lighter outer-wear. Obviously the Trench Coat is a winner for this rainy weather, but there is another option you could think about if you want something shorter and easy to throw on, and that’s the Khaki Jacket.

For me, the Khaki Jacket is an essential for spring/summer. If you’re not needing to be super-smart then this is the one for you. It’s totally versatile and pretty much goes with everything. There’s loads of them out there right now but I have narrowed it down to 4 versions, all at varying price points. Here’s just a selection of ideas as to what you can wear them with…

KHAKI JACKET AND WHITE DRESS

Let’s start with looking forward. Forward to days when you will actually be able to wear a white dress and sandals. Those days will come, I have faith that they will, we just don’t know exactly when. I love love this Isabel Marant Etoile dress and I’m sorry to feature the A.P.C Demi Lune bag yet again, but I’m still lusting after it, so here it is again just for me to think about some more…

1. New Look Khaki Cotton Shacket
2. Isabel Marant Etoile Long Vealy Dress
3. A.P.C. Demi Lune Bag
4. M&S Tan Leather Buckle Sandals
5. The Outnet Stella McCartney Sandals

KHAKI JACKET AND WHITE JEANS

Again with the white. I finally own a pair of white jeans after a long search for ones that weren’t too tight and too naff. I got these Acne ones from The Outnet which are great. They also now have these Current/Elliot boyfriend style ones. But now I’ve also discovered these ME + EM wide leg ones and if you’re a regular reader you already know how much I love a wide-legged crop trouser of any sort. This Khaki Jacket is probably my favourite out of the 4 I’ve selected. It’s just the perfect casual style. Also, Kurt Geiger have made a trainer monogrammed just for me it seems…

1. Baukjen Rhian Khaki Jacket
2. Toast Leather Circle Cross Body Bag
3. ME + EM 70’s Crop White Jeans
4. Petit Bateau Breton Top
5. Kurt Geiger Leif Trainers

KHAKI JACKET AND BLACK SKINNIES

Black Skinny jeans and a Khaki Jacket are one of my my go-to’s when I can’t think what to wear. Plus a grey T Shirt. Sounds a bit dull but t’s easy and it just works. I know, I know, skinnies are not the height of fashion these days, but, and this so shallow, they make me look thinner. I’m not thinner, it’s just the jeans. My best ever skinny black jeans are these from Current Elliot. They are pricey but worth it on a cost per wear basis. I’ve had mine for 5 years now. But, if you want a cheaper alternative then stick with Topshop. Their Leigh jeans are great, nice and tight and don’t fade too quickly. I also have this Next jacket. It is a little more substantial than the others. It is lined and feels it would stand up to a shower and not leave you soaked through.

1. Next Khaki Utility Jacket
2. Lily and Lionel Luna Silk Scarf
3. Top Shop Leigh Skinny Jeans
4. & Other Stories Scoop Neck T Shirt
5. & Other Stories Suede Chelsea Boots

KHAKI JACKET AND DENIM JUMPSUIT

Ok, I know the jacket goes the best with blue jeans, but I’m always doing jeans, so how about a jumpsuit just for a change?  I am yet to find my perfect denim jumpsuit. I had one once, but it was a bit too thick for me, felt very Kevin Webster in it. That hasn’t dampened my love for them though. One day I will find my perfect fit. I do love this MIH one. I think it would be very easy to dress up or down. Love the tie neck detail and the cropped wide leg obviously. I still regret not getting the star print jumpsuit they did last year. I procrastinated too long and they all sold out. Nothing haunts you like the things you didn’t buy!

1. Dorothy Perkins Cotton Jacket
2. MIH Denim Wide Leg Jumpsuit
3. Top Shop Lobster Studded Cross Body Bag
4. Next Black Leather Beach Sandals
5. Whistles Maida Block Heel Sandals

For followers of my swimsuit quest. All other options went back. So the winner remains the Boden Santorini and my trusty old M&S suck-it-all-in number, both will be coming away with me next week. Along with 2 others I found in the bottom of my ‘holiday drawer’ that I forgot I even owned! Those ‘Holiday drawers’ are a mine of undiscovered gems (along with a load of dodgy Primark vests that have gone straight in the bin!) There may not be a blog next week as I am away, but if wi-fi and the mood takes me I may be able to rustle something up!
