I spent it all on clothes by the looks of things...

Get Your Coat...

Listen up ladies, it’s coat time. There are certain items of clothing I just love buying. Shoes are probably top of the list, knitwear excites me more than is acceptable (should I be admitting that?) and a new winter coat purchase is something I look forward to every year. Do I buy a new coat every year? Yes, I do. Do I buy more than one? Yes, I’m not ashamed to say, I do that too! I will be sorting through my previous years coats again soon though, to adhere to my (not very) strict policy of ‘one in, one out’.  I’ll sell some on eBay soon to appease my guilty conscience.

So, this year I have bought 3 new coats already. Don’t judge me. Actually do, I am awful, but I *needed* them all. I really didn’t, I just wanted them. I got one in the sale from Etoile Isabel Marant back in May. What kind of fool buys a coat in May? This kind of fool, that’s who. I also bought my Whistles Faux Fur coat last week. Still too bloody warm to wear, but it will have it’s day. Then last weekend on a total whim, I bought a checked overcoat from Arket. I just happened to find myself on Regents Street and it would have been rude to have left empty-handed. It doesn’t seem to be online yet, but this one is very similar.

These new coats are in addition to those I already own and will not be selling. Those are; Smart navy coat from M&S, a classic that I’ve had for 4 years and will keep for a long time. I also have the Warehouse teddy coat that I am happy to say they are doing again this year. I love it. My Topshop Leopard Print Faux Fur Coat that comes out every year without fail, I bought mine 9 years ago and it still works a treat. Lastly, my M&S Trench Coat for slightly warmer days. Another Stone cold classic. I’ll add to this list my old Parka ‘Football’ coat, but I’m saving the ‘Parka post’  for a bit, until it gets really cold. So without further ado, here’s the 5 coat styles that I love…

CLASSIC SMART COAT

Can be black, camel or navy. If you’re feeling adventurous maybe veer into red or green territory. Keep it as simple as possible. Don’t get sidetracked with anything overly embellished, you’ll only regret it.…

2. Bella Freud 1970 Roll neck Sweater
3. The Outnet J Brand Black Skinny Jeans
4. M&S Block Heel Ankle Boots
5. Marc Jacobs Studded Leather Bag

FAUX FUR COAT

In recent years this has become a pre-requisite in any discerning womans wardrobe. Perfect for nights out when the weather really turns, but also 100% acceptable for daywear. This one from & Other Stories is totally margo form The Royal Tenenbaums. Love a 70’s vibe…

2. & Other Stories Quilted Leather Tote
3. Isabel Marant Studded Leather Ankle Boots

CHECKED OVERCOAT

This one is new for me this season. I did buy a cheap one in New Look last year that I will still wear, but more spends means better quality so I’m looking forward to getting my new Arket one out. There’s tons of checked coats out there, this Top Shop one is my other favourite. I also just bought these cord trousers from Toast. Not a company I have bought much from in the past, but have recently re-discovered. The cords are perfect, I’m looking forward to some chillier days so I can wear them without being a sweaty arbuckle by the time I get off the tube!

2. M&S Cotton Classic Shirt
3. Top Shop Checked Crombie Coat

TEDDY COAT

Ok, so this one probably isn’t essential, but it’s just so cosy and hard to resist. I love mine from last year, or actually maybe it was 2 years ago, anyway it’s perfect with casual jeans and boots, just take a brolly if it looks like rain…

hush Love jumper, warehouse teddy coat

1. Hush Love Sweater
2. Warehouse Pink Teddy Coat
3. The Outnet Mother Boyfrend Jeans
4. Minna Parikka Bunny Trainers
5. Top Shop Slogan T‑Shirt

TRENCH COAT

I know I’ve wanged on about this before, but I do feel that every lady needs a good trench Coat. I never ‘got it’ until I found the perfect one, now I wouldn’t be without it in my wardrobe. I may never actually be Audrey Hepburn. I like cheese too much to be a waif, but I can pretend with some ballet flats, nice jeans and a good trench…

Topshop Trench coat, Gucci brown leather belt

1. Topshop Staple Editors Trench Coat
2. M&S Stripe Round Neck Jumper with Gold Trim
3. Gucci Double G Leather Belt
4. Chloe Lauren Scallop-edge Ballet Flats
5. Weekend Max Mara Cropped Jeans

I’m off to eat some more cheese. Is it ever really acceptable to have a whole baked Camembert all to yourself for lunch?
