Back To School Boots

No, I’m not going back to school, I’m talking about treating yourself to a new pair of boots. I feel like I deserve some new boots to celebrate my not-so-little darlings having finally returned to gainful education. Those 7 weeks of complaining that they never ‘do anything’, alternated with ‘why do we have to go out?’ are over for another year. I love the summer, but I am pretty happy that life is back to normal again. I am already thinking of where to go on our next holiday though, you have to have something to look forward to don’t you?

But until then, it’s September and that ‘back to school’ feeling always makes me think of buying new shoes. New shoes were always my favourite part of going back, well that and the pencil-case, all that wonderful stationary and a plethora of new scented rubbers to add to my collection. I don’t suppose they even make them anymore as health and safety probably rules them out in case foolish kids eat them.

Autumn means the shoe of the season is really a boot, not a shoe. I know it’s still reasonably warm but always good to get your new Autumn boots purchase in early. So pack away your sandals and let’s have a look at some styles I’m keen on this month…

CHUNKY BOOTS

This is probably my favourite style of boots, as I mentioned before, I will always be a grunge/rock girl at heart. My all time favourites are the Givenchy studded buckle boots. Prohibitively expensive at full price for most people, myself included. I got mine at a very fortuitous discount-upon-a-discount from Secret Sales. Never before, and never again, have I ever seen anything on that site that was as good as these. The footwear gods were smiling upon me that October day in 2016 when I scored the worlds bests boots at a 45% discount. That was still super expensive, but I’ve worn them so much I’ve already had to have them resoled. I look forward to colder weather so I can wear more.

CHELSEA BOOTS

An absolute classic boot. Everyone should have at least one pair fo Chelsea boots. Will never go out of fashion and should last you for years. Personally, if you were to get just one style I would opt for classic black, like the M&S or Cos ones. The pointy ones from & Other Stories are also cool, and comfortable too, I have them in black patent leather but they come in about 6 colours and they do them every year, so you know they are winners.chelsea boots

WESTERN BOOTS

Definitely a big trend for this season. I’m not one for heels at all, but I can just about deal with the height of these. My perennial favourites are the Isabel Marant Dicker boots. I have had mine for about 5 years now and I still wear them if I want a little lift. They are expensive, but price per wear is tiny. Topshop also do a great ‘homage’ though with their Betty boots. if you’re feeling more adventurous then why not some serious cowboy style like the Ganni and Topshop ones below?

NOT BOOTS AT ALL – HI-TOPS

I know, not boots at all really, but these are also staples in my wardrobe for the coming season. I never really got the fuss about Golden Goose before I actually bought a pair. They have a ‘secret lift’ in the sole which makes your ankles look really thin. Shallow, yes, but they are also super comfy. But for that price they really should be! If they are out of your price point, then go for Vans. Also super comfortable and cool.

  1. I was thinking about a pair of Doc Martin 8 holes – I loved them when I was 15 but not sure about them for this age?! Thoughts?

    1. I would just worry about the ‘breaking in’ I remember the pain of the blisters to this day! Although both my boys have DMs for school shoes and they didn’t have that problem so maybe the leather isn’t so stiff these days!

      1. I absolutely love docs and I really struggle finding shoes I like which I find comfortable! I have a pair of embossed black snake boots and some silver brogues. I live in them, I missed them both so much during the heat wave. Much to my suprise/ joy, there wasn’t really much a breaking in period on either. They have some really lovely stlyes and patterns this season. I say go for it. X

  2. A big yes to the ankle boots!
Chelsea boots are my first love – I like a bit of detailing on mine. They must be one of the hardest working items in my wardrobe. At the end of last winter I invested in a pair of western style snakeskin boots, slightly out of my comfort zone but I love them, and I love the bit of height they give me.

  3. Love this post. Hi-tops have to be my favourite but I have a pair of all these type of boots. I’ve just treated myself to a pair of Zadig and Voltaire black ankle boots with ribbons for laces. They are gorgeous but can’t beat the GG for comfort!

  4. Hello Kate,
LUSH content as always! And obviously I want to buy them all.
And yes Secret Sales is a real gem palace.
Please can you do a piece on Checks? That single breasted coat in the 2nd image is fab, but sadly probably sold out.
All the shops are awash in Checks at the moment – but obviously missing your edit and eye 👍🏻
    Regards

  5. LOVE all of these! I actually bought the Carvela Skant boots last Christmas but had to return them as the studs on the heels kept falling off. Bit rubbish for £189 if you ask me! Will try the M&S ones instead 🙂

  6. I love boot season! This year I went crazy and treated myself to Toga Pulla boots- I loved them like forever! Cant afford the golden goose, but looking at tall air and grace in black glitter!!! Love yoir edit! I also want white cowboy boots and some adidas falcons…oh god…did I say I love boots?😂

  7. I’ve loved my Top Shop wide leg cropped jeans this summer. Wondering how I can transition them into Autumn, with boots. Any ideas? Love your content. Were you at Chrysalis building many moons ago?

    1. I usually wear my wide leg trousers with flat Chelsea boots or trainers with a knee length sock! I never worked in the Chrysalis building, I started at EMI:Chrysalis in 1999 when they had merged and were in the Brook Green building. But I went to a few meetings there even before that!
